How it has served me so far is neither negative or positive really... I am numb to all manners of idiot driving. I was never 100% like that before but the transformation is complete. The time I spend in my car is pretty much in a zombie-like state. I just listen to music and try not to die. It has become my quiet time to myself. It would be nice to live a bit closer to work but all in all I don't mind the drive.

I drive about 50 minutes in the morning and just over an hour on my way home.
I used to work a bit later, and my commute was only about 35min-45min each way, but I work earlier so I can pick up my nephew from day care on time.

I'd rather live closer, but then I'd have to buy a crappy condo or rent a crappy apartment. I'd rather commute an hour and have a nicer home than commute 5 minutes and live in a shithole.

Mine is about 45 mins each way. Its not too bad but it really is annoying having to get up early, and it really does make you more tired when you get home. All in all its ok cause on the way I can just think and listen to music. My drive is 95% back roads that are 45-55mph where I can go like 65mph. No traffic jams, and only a few stop signs/lights so its easy cruising. If it was all traffic and city like conditions I would probably hate it a lot more and woudl probably demand compensation for it.

1 hour 5 minutes in the morning, 1 hour 15 minutes in the afternoon, it's miserable, especially after putting in a 9 hour day then knowing you have another hour or so to get home and putting up with all the idiots on the road makes it even worse. i'm moving as soon as i can to be closer.

this was me about a month ago, except my milage as 63. I just got a new job; 10 miles, 20 minutes. Makes a world of difference in time and cost of gas.

My wife travels 45 mins on the train then another 30 on the subway each way, each day, into Manhattan. So practically 3 hours a day is spent commuting. She's asked me if she could quit. Since dual-income is FTW, I said hell no. Easy for me to say, I just come downstairs to work everyday. Clearly travel time makes a difference for her. If she worked locally, we'd only be up at 8am and be home by 530pm. Instead, we're up at 7 and don't get cooking till around 645pm. After dinner, we have 2 or so hours of free time and it's right back at it the next day.

Currently travel ~12 miles and it takes me 25-30 minutes.

I'm in the process of getting a new job which would be about 16 miles but take me only 15 minutes 🙂

Right now its ~20 miles and ~30 minutes, although my schedule is flexible so I can come in after most of the rush hour traffic has passed, and leave later after the evening rush hour has calmed down. It also helps that the route I take seems to not be one of the popular work commute routes, as I never hear it mentioned on the local traffic watch reports.

This isn't at my usual location, I am working with a different team on another project until sometime next year. Luckily my company is opening a brand new location next Jan. and will be moving many of the people from the office I am working at now to the new place, which would only be 9 miles and maybe 17 minutes from where I live. I would be taking all regular roads to get there.

I'm about a 12-15 minute drive from the office...it helps that I work 9-6 though. I've considered biking to work but the surface streets that I'd have to take have enough bad drivers to quelch those thoughts

Mine is about 3-5 minutes to work. Coming back is usually 5 minutes because of the traffic on the city roads--the freeway entrance I take to get to work doesn't have an exit near the entrance in the opposite direction, weird.

12-16 minute bike ride depending on whether I feel like sprinting or taking it easy

15-40 minute drive depending on traffic.

Grad school is fun like that. Of course, my last job was at another university and it was about the same. I hope to god I never have a long commute. That an hour each way just seems like it would be hell.

20 minutes on empty, winding roads on the island
20 minutes on the ferry
20-40 minutes on congested city streets and the freeway.

If it wasn't for the motorcycle (which isn't as frustrating in traffic for some reason...you can be stopped just as long, but you don't get as angry/annoyed), and the ferry ride in the middle where I can sit/read/think, I'd go crazy. I hate long commutes.

Mine can be anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours. I live about 20 miles away from work. If I leave at 6AM, I can get there in 45 minutes. If I leave almost anytime after that, the it's at least a 1.25 hour drive. In other words, I spend 2.5-3 hours sitting in my car every day just to get to work, so even a short day at the office is a long day.

Do. Not. Do. It. It's not worth it. There's nothing worse than having a stressful day then realizing you have to sit in traffic for another hour before you get home.

10 minutes maybe 15, I promised myself I would never live more than 20 minutes from work, it only makes sense for my sanity, my free time, my wallet and the environment.

Roughly 20 miles / 30 minutes each way. Right now with the construction and detours it is about 40-45 minutes.

20-30 minutes going to work and about 30-40 minutes going home (traffic is worse at 5pm than before 8am). Yesterday it took me about an hour and 10 minutes because of some crash. Soon it will be longer because we just bought a house farther away from work.

Work is about 45 mile away. Minimum 50 min driving to work. Over 1 hour getting home. Being doing it for over 9 years so I don't notice about the long commute any more. OK not completely true, if the traffic moving/flowing then I don't mind the long drive. If it was congest or stop and go, then I tense up. Very stressful.

I used to have a 60 min drive to work, it was ok at first but I soon started to dread it. I would get home at 7. By the time I got everything done for the day it was almost time for bed, since I had to wake up so early. It's like working a 2nd part-time job. Now that I have a family I would never take a job that far away again.

OP, When you're old and dying you're not going to look back and say "I wish I would have spent more time commuting".

50 miles, 35-40 min, there is ZERO traffic, its 99.99% highway and no it does not affect my QOL

i work 8-5 basicially
get up at 6:20, leave at 7, normally get home between 530-6

Right now it's 4 miles... ~7-10 minutes in the morning, 15-20 in the evening. I like it... a lot. My old commute was 90 minutes each way, and it SUCKED. Don't do that. I'm looking at buying a house that's 30 minutes from work. 30 minutes is doable. I've done 30 minutes before. With audiobooks it doesn't feel like the time is wasted. Beyond 30 minutes is getting longer than I really want to spend in a car.
