80 if it's dry.

80 if it's raining.

65 if my countermeasures go off.

are there really 55 mph zones in LA? the i5 is 70mph.. ya? i go 80 in the 70.. but 80 in the 55 is begggggging to get popped..

Yes there are 55 zones, and they're bullshit. Drove the 710 daily. Usually go 80-85 with the flow of traffic, unless you have some dbag going 60mph the whole way in the left lane. 80 was my norm in a 65. Only ever got one ticket on a SoCal freeway in 13 years I was licensed.

Now I moved to Indiana. Not very lenient, especially in the 55 zones on the I65. Undercover cops everywhere popping speeders. Set my cruise for 62mph in a 55, 77mph in a 70. Good thing is there's no traffic. Can go 30 miles in less than 30 minutes to get home regardless of the time. Hardly ever see a wreck, rain has no effect. Took me an hour in LA to go the same distance, sometimes much much MUCH longer.

Speed limit is 70 here. Cops won't pull you over for 10 mph over or less and there is no penalty on your license if you do.

Only 3 points on your license for 11-15 over, 6 points for 16-25 over. I stay under 90 and typically around 85 to avoid the possibility of 6 points. Use a radar detector every day, saved me countless tickets.

Haven't driven in a bit over a year, but I used to drive at 110 to 140 km/h (70-90 mph)?

Pulled over once, got let off, never ticketed but I only drove for a few years mainly for work.

In retrospect, not remotely proud of going that fast, especially when I did it during hard rain in the summer. I tried to keep it around 115 km/h (just below when tickets got juicy for cops), but drifted into 130 and beyond when cruising. I also hated being stuck in the right lane and having a hell of a time switching lanes due to being slower than everyone else.

The poll should have been in relation to the posted speed limit.

My goal is 7 to 8 mph over the limit. Basically I want to make sure I don't get a 10 mph over the limit ticket.

Generally 10mph over the limit or less...I've been pulled over enough going faster than that when I was younger- just not worth it.

This.

However, if I'm in my pickup I generally won't go faster than about 65 mph. I'm afraid the gas mileage will suffer from poor aerodynamics. (It's 4WD so it sits up a bit high.)

I used to have a 1 ton van, and I'd take it to the mountains for paddling trips. It was a 3 speed, geared low, and the roads were fast. The usual "great" 12mpg I got dropped to around 7 going to the mountains

It depends. If I'm driving on a highway, over a longer distance, I set up the cruise control to the speed level + some indicated, too get roughly 55 real mph.

When I'm on a short trip, in an area I know, I will likely exceed the speed limit by 5-10 mph, depending on mood, traffic density and such.

The instant on radars that don't emit a detectable signal until it's pointed at someone with the trigger pulled make life interesting. They had these in southeastern Colorado a few years ago and probably still do.
If you drive 55 you get much better mileage.

Depends on the road. Generally 60-64, but I'm never the fastest person on the road. I prefer someone else draw negative attention.

What he said.

But, if I don't have anywhere to be or anything to do I'll often set the cruise right on the limit and park in the right lane. 77 instead of 70 saves 5.5 minutes per hour, but hurts my mileage by 5-10%. If I have somewhere to be I just eat the cost, but sometimes I just dgaf. Even when I do feel like it, I never set my cruise to higher than 110% of the posted highway limit, anything above that attracts too much attention.

A good radar detector will pick it up from other cars. I've had it happen tons. My radar detector will pick that instant on shit from a mile away as they shoot other cars.

Pro-tip: Don't speed without others around you and let a minesweeper go ahead of you.

5-14 mph over the speed limit usually. That seems to be what others are doing, so I just go with the flow. I'm not the fastest, but I'm far from the slowest. AZ the speed limit was around 75. In New England its 65. I never went above 84 in AZ though.

i drive 70 in the 55 sections of i94 in Detroit because i think 55 is dumb since most of it is 70 but other than that, i follow the speed limit
