Why do you care how they react? How do You react when a Christian tells you he believes in God? Do you think he cares?

Just tell them 'I don't belive in God'. If he tries to convert you then answer with: 'I am not trying to make you drop your fate. I expect the same treatment from you.'

If anything, I always hear the other way around. Every atheist I know has to espouse on and on about their non-theist beliefs, annoying everyone.

This is because playing submissive to an opressor is a fine tactic for legitimizing your belief in their eyes. Many, otoh, want only to return the "favor" they've been given. Which is better? Hard to say.

I'm extremely open to other people's beliefs... so long as those beliefs do not involve the suppression and/or ridicule of other people's beliefs.

i agree. for the most part telling a religious person that you don't believe what they do guarantees that you get a rant from them, or some other kind of hassle. i quit going to church 8 months ago, and this one old lady drops by *my workplace* every few weeks to bug me about it.

Actually I agree many kids are atheists in the name of rebellion, you generally see them take up a religion by 20-22 when they realize their mortality. What's left are the true atheists. So your attack wasn't entirely baseless. I'm not a kid however, nor do I crave attention in the least. But hey, I can't really blame you - at nearly 20k posts and nonelite status, most other posters would start kissing serious ass as well
