So if you have a son, and one of his friends calls asking for him, will you hang up on THEM if they don't identify themselves?Originally posted by: HappyPuppy
I am an asshole, as many of you know, and I have one primary requirement for any boy who wants to talk to my daughter, ie. when you call my daughter and I or any other member of my family answers the phone, you will identify yourself BEFORE asking to speak to my daughter. If you do not I, and the other members of my family, will hang up on you. Yes, we will be just as rude as you.
If you say Yes, you're just eccentric. if you say No, you have a bit of a double standard there.
Then I am eccentric. My son is older than my daughter and I have hung up on his friends, even when I recognized their voices, because they know the rules. I still, to this day, hang up on them if they do not identify themselves. Oh, my wife agrees with me wholeheartedly. We believe it is rude to not identify yourself when you call someone.
I hate to tell you this, but, no matter how many times you hang up on guys and make them follow your little procedure, one of them is eventually going to be fvcking your daughter. And I bet its the one who states his name first...
you are an idiot. seriously.
i completely agree with you happy puppy, and im 19 for the record.
you idiots that dont say your name first and think you are in the right need to rethink your approach to life basically. i call my girlfriends house all the time and i ALWAYS say "hey, this is mrdudeman..."
it isnt complicated...not only will the person know who it is and make them more comfortable, they can tell the person you are trying to reach who it is. if said person is busy, they can tell me or whoever else called to call back at a more convenient time.
i cant believe other people dont do this, and really cant believe people think it is stupid.
edit: and before you say it, yes, all of my friends called my house and stated their names first. it is common courtesy around here
I'm 20, whenver someone answers the phone it's always "Hi it's Confused, is xxxxx there please?". Even if they have Caller ID on their phones. It's just common courtesy and common sense.
I have to say I agree with HappyPuppy with this!
