I have an Asus Radeon 9550 128MB. I heard a while back it has the possibility of overclocking it or even unlocking some pipes?! to bring it to 9600 level.
If so, how can i do that?

If you google 9550 unlocking it will help.
You need to flash the bios of your card to a 9600.
It may net you a few fps. Try overclocking it?

download ATITOOLS and just overclock it yourself...if I'm right you should have a orange PCB card like the one I have and I got it to 400Mhz core 275Mhz Memory....but yours may differ in clocks a bit.

catalyst says 250MHz clock and 196Mhz memory...u sure i can take it up to that much with stock fan?

pretty sure, although you should start at maybe 350/250 and run a couple of 3DMARKS and see for any weird stuff...then go up little by little until you reach your max overclock

Should I just use atitools? Or should I flash it to 9600 as well? Would that make a difference?

did u try going to 400/300? apparently you need to achieve these 9600 clocks before u can flash it to 9600

i don't see why you need to flash it to 9600....i could achieve what the 9600PRO would score in 3dmarks with just overclocking....

no i didnt try 400/300....the memory clock wouldn't go higher than 275 in my case....but the core could get up to 415 but i left it at 400.

would 400/250 be good enough? and safe too?
i want to flash it cause I'm playin this tennis game that supports only cards from 9600 onward. Right now when I'm playing it CPU usage is at 100%

400/250 should be fine...im still using that 9550 at 400/270 with stock cooler since idk when.....

and your cpu usage is always at 100% in all games.

i've read that most of the time this is not supposed to happen

On a different note...this game says it supports 9600 and on. Will flashing my 9550 with 9600 bios make a difference for the game? Or maybe the game is designed to use more pipes than the 4 the 9550 has and flashing it won't make any difference?

every game is utilizing 100% cpu all the time...that to make sure the user can have the best experience...even old games like Age of Empires 2 is using 100% of my X2's one core.

flashing your 9550 to 9600 is too much of a trouble...you might even end up breaking your 9550...and beside the 9550 is the same rv360 core as the 9600/9600pro/9600xt, just slower....4 pipes.

The game says it supports 9600 and on because probably at launch time, the 9550 didnt exist, it came later to fill in for budget gamers.

It does happen... in fact I'd be surprised if there was any game that did not max out a cpu (assuming 1 core)

graphic cards support doesn't really matter as long as you can play the game

true...
i did some research and I have Hynix 5ms memory chips so they are designed to work at 200. so i'll leave them alone i guess
i'll probably only try to take the clock to 400 since this is the max the rv350 chips on the market are at.

I was wondering if this performance increase from overclocking the core is normal or too little.

So i got the core from 250 to 350 (40%increase) and got an in increse of 19% in 3dmark2003 (from 2475 to 2948) and 24% in 3dmark2005 (from 1189 to 1477).

So does this look kinda right? For 40% increse in core clock i get about 20% more performance?
