When I lived int So Cal (will be soon again, w00t!) I umm..knew, no uh heard ya thats it heard about some guys who had a friend who got socked around by her boyfriend. They didnt agree with this and thought that perhpas this guy needed to have some personal time of deep introspection in the wilderness, and with the high desert being so close they decided to help this guy through this tough time by taking him out to a very special place, way, way, WAY out in the desert where perhaps he could have the time to look inside himself and purge his being of his inner demons.
Too bad they forgot to go pick him up after they dropped him off out there, but thats what a pony keg, and the desert will do to ya.

No crap, firing blanks in CA is still considered assult with a deadly wepon. And anyone who knows anything about firearms knows that a automatic pistol will not cycle with a blank round unless you use a surpressor. Then if you were to fire the real round your gun would explode and most likely kill/maim you.
So in closing, if you pull a gun on someone you better be willing to shoot them with real bullets, this is real life after all and not a movie.

The reason that blanks don't work is there is nothing to force the slide, your gun simply will not chamber the next round. No explosions/no killing or maiming....

You could manually slide and chamber the next round.

Also I believe in all states blanks or brandishing an unloaded weapon is more of a crime than using a loaded one. A gun unloaded or loaded with blanks can only be used as a threat.

You can get it to cycle, if you put one of those... eh, I'm not coming up with the proper nonclementure, so I'll just call it a restrictor (which I am fairly sure is not the word) and edit this once my memory starts working again, its the piece of equipment that they attach to an M-16 while using the MILES system. It restricts the exit of the gas through the muzzle enough that the bolt will cycle, and the shock of the round going off tells the laser to fire. However, if you were to fire a live round through that you would have some problems. Which is probably what AAjax was thinking about.

For the M16 there is a blank adapter that doesnt need the MILES system at all.

I don't know of any available pistols with a blank adapter though, there are many blank firing adapters for rifles and especially military rifles. If you simply load blanks/live ammo in an automatic pistol there is no way that's going to cause the gun to blow up. If you did somehow get a blank adapter and then fire live ammo through it, anything could happen...however in some movies they do fire through bfa's with live ammo....
