How did you select your AT username?

I don't have any real reasoning other than I was sick of all the normal usernames being taken, so I just came up with something random that wasn't already in use.

Back when I was playing MMORPGs I always picked classes that could solo........usually hybrid classes because you needed to support yourself. Choosing a group class like a Hero in DAOC was a big step for me in giving up my kinda closed-off nature. Sure it was just a game, but it was also indicative of my developing personality.

The server I played on was Pellinor. It was popular at the time on the Vault boards at IGN to indicate your realm and/or server and/or class so people knew something of where you were coming from when you posted questions or rants or whatnot. So I was HeroOfPellinor. I was also my first time really posting more than very very infrequently.

So when I joined Anandtech to engage in some hot deals discussions centering around my first ever PC build, I needed to pick a name and HeroOfPellinor, aside from being suitably nonsensical, represented a kind of milestone in my online past, so I figured I'd keep it to remind myself.

I didn't have natural gas at the time and it was a week of -40C. Since I had no heat and I am Canadian, Frozen Canadian seemed a good name. I'm just glad nobody had it.

My name came to be from playing with google and I needed a login name for anandtech but did not want to spend all day on it. I did not want to copy Google verbatim so I droped the L and added an R. Hence the Googer that I now hate and wish to change.

I can't remember exactly why I chose it, but I've always had it. I had to pick my first email address so I could be cool like everyone else... I must have thought for days before I chose, I don't remember what made me decide on this.

To this day I still get people who try to make fun of me with my name... doesn't work. I've heard it all in the 9 or so years I've had it.
