I've played between August and December 2011, just to do something different than Guild Wars.

It was alight, with different RPG aspects guild wars is lacking, but it has MMORPG aspects that are a pain.

Hit level 85 and the game became boring.

Guild Wars 2 fucking be released, even if buggy!!!!

Played it for a week sometime in the first year. Didn't like the backstory, the humor, the sloppy story construction, etc. Wasn't a fan of Warcraft, so it had no hooks there. It was real easy to leave. Over time, hearing the war stories, seems like it was for the best.

you're my kind of player. World pvp was the best. Utterly unpredictable and fun. I remember one world pvp match when I was like level 40 where I, a druid, ended up in castor mode and out of mana so I couldn't shift into cat mode. So I finished the guy off with my stave.

Gotta tell my brother that story!

I just remembered I had made a video of me ganking hordes on a private blizz like server a while ago. There was going to be a part 2 where it was going to have my brother (druid) but I got banned before I could even start filming it =\

Oh and yes, I was a clicker at the time :p

That was one of the best pvp videos I've ever seen.

Yeah, the cool thing about pvp like that is that it's *real*. Like, the tension is far better than anything that a canned game like Call of Duty could come up with.

One of my favorite strategies (not sure if this works anymore) was in battlegrounds as a mage. Hunters are supposed to destroy mages. Well, I'd blink in, frost nova the hunter and his pet, sometimes sheep the pet, get inside of his dead zone, and then frost bolt him to death. Worked pretty well.

heck, battlegrounds was one of the best MP experiences ever. Better than HALO imo.

edit: oh, that's a private server? Well, that's different now isn't it?

Stopped playing retail for over a year and then discovered molten-wow, a private server. Downloaded the client, made a character, and joined a 20x server. Its more fun when you can level to 80 in a weekend of playing. Got my son to play with me (he's 11), and we are levelling up some night elf characters, a priest and a rogue. Having fun with it a few hours a week and since its free, if I don't play, it doesn't cost me a thing.

do private servers still run? I used to love private wow servers...where you could solo 25 man raids...man that was awesome

I played it for a few months in TBC. But I picked a DPS class (hunter) and I found out that, in the end game, DPS is a dime a dozen. As a new guild member, even though I had decently geared myself in BG epics and quest/faction gear and could quite consistently top the damage meter, getting a raid slot was still a problem.
Then the pre-WotLK patch came out that broke PVP. And Blizzard decided to let every class DPS like a pure DPS class, marginalizing hunter even more. Tried leveling a pallie but my heart wasn't in it, and the pain of leveling a non-hunter wore me down before 40. So I decided not to spend the money on WotLK and dropped the game when 70 became a wasteland.

I started playing RIFT. Then after 3 months I decided to go back to WOW and couldnt. Took a little break from rift and Just started playing last month and OMG they made RIFT even better then before, and Im not the only one saying that, the population is really high on may servers. Lots of guilds, LFG takes less then 15 minutes for any dungeon. Its amazing.

Combination of Vagina, Missteps by Blizzard with BWL, and having zero interest in AQ.

By the time I considered playing it again it was a completely different game.
Time was a big thing too, and not having friends to play with.

At the time, I was in a HC raiding guild. 3rd to kill Rag3.0 and 17th to Kill Nef. It will always be my one claim to gaming fame.

Let's talk about how groundbreaking WOW was at the time.

I had played MMO's before. and WOW was a quantum leap ahead of previous entries because....

1. It had skill trees and activated abilities.
2. A truly inspired art style.
3. Different game modes like battlegrounds

Battlegrounds in particular was impressive I thought. More fun than Team Fortress 2.

Played for 3 months at launch.. the endgame was 5 dungeons over and over. I quit. Tried again at first expansion and lasted one month. Boring repetition.

Very easy.. Cataclysm made me quit.. total and utter garbage.

from Alpha to WoTLK loved the game.. Cata killed it for me.. and pandas and pokemon reenforced my choice..

/troll?

DAoC had skill trees and battlegrounds long before WoW was released. And as for "truly inspired art style," well, to each their own...

We have "quit" WoW for now since we absolutely HATE the upcoming expansion and have no interest playing a child themed game. (Panda, Pokemon etc..) == BULLC**.

This is something which might appeal for anyone <7..but we are older than 7 years old. Me and wife agree that we hate the idea that the game becomes a kid's game.

And of course, there are MANY, MANY more issues i dont want to list..like the eternal grind, guild drama, stupid PvP imbalances etc..etc..

The last time i had "somewhat" fun in WoW was when right after Cata came out, i hated it first but the Cata zones really grew on me and i made TONS, TONS of money herbing and selling the herbs.

(Mind you i elegantly leave out the torture which "Archaeology" was with endless, mindless grind for that ***** vial for the drake mount thing..which about made me insane in my head).

Still getting the itch occasionally..but i know that it will be the SAME things again once we start playing. And this stupid Panda expansion will NOT draw us back to the game, for sure.
