I had a professor that needed to recommend someone for a program at a national lab, and I guess I was the only available person? Damn I got lucky.

My Uncle's boss needed help with general excel/word stuff as the regular guy was going to join the army. That was 3 years ago. I joined on, dazzled them with my skills, and transfered twice internally to my current position as one of the lead admins/developers for a growing CRM app here.

Also, my Uncle got his position at this company from a reference from my father who no longer works at the company

At 18 I applied to a schoolboard and got a teaching assistant position. Lawl, the teachers that taught me in elementary/highschool a few years back will have a shock/nightmare flashback when I get sent to work with them. haha

Professional organization's online jobs listing.
I also got a few leads via Monster, but none of those went anywhere.

Every job i've ever had was thru a friend/relative telling me the place they worked at was hiring.

I worked for the place hourly and when someone new was hired in a salaried position, I befriended them and showed them the ropes, culture, etc. When a problem arose, I fixed it and they gained confidence in me. About 2 years later after I had left, they created a position for me and I've been here ever since.

ahh, the medical guy icon had me going. it is a piece of archaic x-ray scanning equipment that I keep alive by hook or by crook for a company or two.

I was a consultant for three years and quit to start my own company.

I hired myself. The interview consisted of playing Xbox 360 in my underwear. I aced it.

LOL. ARE YOU HIRING? :D

I may have to. I wanted to avoid hiring people, but I have been so busy that I might not be able to hold off for long. :D

When I got out of the Corps back in the early 70's, a good friend mentioned that his union was looking for some people...so, I applied for, and got an apprenticeship. Took just over 4 years to become a journeyman, (which to me, is when you REALLY start to learn), and I've stayed pretty busy ever since. Having an exclusive hiring hall has it's benefits, as well as it's drawbacks, but once you get a certain number of years in, you're allowed to hustle your own work if you want, and can by-pass the hall to a certain degree. I haven't worked for union scale in many years, other than a couple of short-term jobs I took just to fill in a gap between "real jobs". Usually, I got at least $3/hr over scale, and often, $5/over. Kept me making $90K/year pretty easily...I'm gonna miss that...:(

I applied for my current job because my brother worked here and liked it. I found out about my future job (start in 1.5 weeks) through my sister and her friend.

Last semester of college were many job fairs... handed in a resume and of course they "kept it in their database". Well 3 months later (and already into another full-time job as a result of a summer internship), this company contacted me for an interview. I said hell-yeah ... got lucky with the location though - they are global and I only knew about this particular location cause my mom worked in the same building (different company). I requested this location and they happened to need someone doing what I did. Went in for an interview with 2 managers and practically got hired on the spot. They toured me the same day and I was confused but the guy let it slip that I was in already. Call from HR as I was leaving... happiest day of my life really. I even sent the HR person a thank you days later for hooking me up with this location. Still remember her name 6 years later. :D

So the lesson here is... they really do keep your resume on file.

My father-in-law worked here and helped me get my foot in the door as a computer programmer. Then I worked diligently for several years and impressed the higher-ups. They decided to promote me to "business systems analyst" (my current job).

Did all the paperwork required to be considered for classified positions within the school system and applied for the opening when it was posted on the web site.
