A martingale is a sequence of random variables (i.e., a stochastic process) for which, at a particular time in the realized sequence, the expectation of the next value in the sequence is equal to the present observed value even given knowledge of all prior observed values at a current time.

My dad used to call me ziggy growing up. I changed the "i" to a 1 because I'm just that cool.

From the novel London Fields by Martin Amis. The protagonist is named Keith Talent; he's essentially the opposite of me, so I found that funny plus I just like the name.

Apparently, after years of struggling to get the production going, the film adaptation of said novel is actually supposed to come out this year: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1273221/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Crazy. Never thought it would happen.

Mine goes back to when my wife and I got our first place together, and we had to sign up with an ISP. They asked us for a username, so I mashed up my last name with her maiden name. Originally used for a joint account, she has long since dropped it from any use at all. I have still been using it for over 15 years.

Mine is from the movie Elf. Will Ferrell was dragged by an amazingly hot Zooey Deschanel to see the big Christmas tree.

I had a strange dream when I was young that I met a giant man. He introduced himself. I woke up and wrote down the name.

My old Eclipse Spyder. I had it quite modded. I planned on converting it to AWD at some point, but never did end up doing it before I sold it. Because it was FWD I could never launch it at the track, so I always ended up running slow times with good mph. SlowSpyder.

I created this account when I had my IT consulting biz. I was a Novell Netware fanatic (and still am, even if the OS is for all intents and purposes dead). I did alot of successful installations and did one of my biggest around the time I joined. Company was using NT4 with their blue-screens and convoluted systems of domain trusts and crappy syncing between PDCs and BDCs etc... I ripped almost all of that out (except for a few windows servers running apps that had to stay on windows) They got a brand spanking new NetWare environment that spanned multi-states that did their file/print/directory services as well as DHCP/DNS, a Groupwise install for email & Zenworks for management. It was one of the best conversions and most lucrative. The staff left on Friday and by Monday morning every workstation had client32. I also had quite a few other NetWare success stories and had the biggest geek hardon for the OS ever.

I got my name because i used to help out repairing computers for friends.
One of my friends came up with it.
My name is a dutchification of William Gates with a wink and a naughty thought.

back when i was growing up, we used to call people beasts when they were good in sports or video games, or something.

"he is a beast at super mario kart, he can whoop me at it!"

and then we started calling the best of the best pure beasts.

"he is a pure beast at super mario kart, he can beat anybody!"

and then i just shortened it into one word, and you have purbeast. many people who see my nick (on these forums even) will type out purebeast or just refer to me as "pure".

Several Max variations on the site in those days so I called it as I saw it and many GFs had said to me. I had also just found out my birth certificate name was Max (long story).

See my sig.

Eniac is what many individuals consider to be the first electronic computer and added xa for some power and to freshen up the name.

They have (or had) a piece of that thing hanging on the wall in a case at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds visitors desk.

Mine was a character in an Atari ST game called DungeonMaster.

Rakehell. But dictionary words are often spoken for, so I concocted this clever portmanteau to express my individuality.
