How did beer get so popular? It isn't even very good.

Try anything from Samuel Smith's brewery. It'll put a song on your lips and a bounce in your step.

It's all personal preference of course. Not for everyone, especially people unwilling to try new things with an open mind. The amount of beers and their complexity certainly trumps every other type of alcoholic beverage. So, I would suggest that if you have only tried 1 type (especially shitty flavorless American lagers/pilsners) or only a couple, I would try a couple more DIFFERENT styles. Brown ale, pale ale/IPA, "good" lager, milk stout, etc., etc.

all types of beverages are good

been wanting to try akvavit for some time yet. mgm has linie for 25

While that is true, this is still a troll thread for the world's oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage. To be honest, threads like these are typically pretty pointless. Like the "Hating on Apple products" thread.

It's mostly just idiot fucks with no lives flaming each other, e.g., it's well beneath my standards. Think i'll go drink another beer and than sleep with my wife. Enjoy the thread though!

Beer is easy to drink over a longer period of time when socializing. You don't want to show up at a venue, become drunk instantly and then spend the rest of the time either getting piss drunk or sobering up.

Or you can:
1. Have a soft drink.
2. Drink your liquor slowly.
3. Develop a tolerance.

I drink beer because I like the taste. I never drink to get drunk. The last time I was really drunk was over a decade ago. But I do like a nice craft beer.

Another nice thing about drinking for the taste instead of to get drunk is that you don't drink as many beers, so you can buy a higher quality beer since you don't need a lot of them.

It does taste disgusting. If I want a guilty pleasure beverage I will get a gallon of chocolate milk.

i'm 21, i don't get beer - if you want to not be sober then go with liquor - if not, why the hell are you drinking

because the goal of drinking an alcoholic beverage is not necessarily to get drunk.

there's a whole social experience around grabbing a beer (or drink of your choice) and just relaxing in the presence of good company.

1. Have a soft drink.
2. Drink your liquor slowly.
3. Develop a tolerance.

Except that beer fills that requirement perfectly... which is what you are complaining about. The three options you list are all arguably compromises to not liking beer. Don't try to reinvent the wheel here. There's a place for beer, and a reason why it is popular. You don't have to agree with it or like it but that doesn't really mean much for the rest of the world.

Beer is amazing. I used to binge on busch light and high life, but nowadays I only buy good beers that I have never tried before.

It's amazing getting the same buzz from 6 good IPA's that you do from 10 crappy pilsners.

Founders Centennial IPA is the best beer on earth.

there's nothing better on a hot summer day than an ice cold draught pilsner. The temperature is going to hit 60F today here in Denmark with clear blue skies and no wind, so I'm seriously considering throwing on a cardigan and going down to the river after lunch and sit in the sun and drink beer all day long. (this is a wierd ass winter/early spring btw)

Lager is good, Cider is better (As long as the sugar content isn't too high). Stuff like Kopparberg is waaaay too sugary and sweet. Savannah cider is a nice dry cider.

I only drink alcohol to be merry or get drunk. I only do it socially too, I would never drink at home alone. I don't dislike the taste of beer, but I don't think it's a nice taste either. But you can drink a lot of beer and it still taste OK. I couldn't drink a lot of Rum and coke (my favourite short) and not feel sick.

For the most part I don't care for beer either. Most of the time I'd be happier with soda, but when I'm out with people it's usually beer. I'm usually paying a lot of money for a drink I like less... it's certifiably insane
