Why should I give a shit what someone else thinks about it? There are many many MANY people who agree with me. Just because YOU don't doesn't mean shit. :)

Likewise, although, I'd say MANY MANY MORE agree with the value in the iPad, so what your opinion is means shit to even fewer people.

Actually, I think any time I come up with a product idea, I'll run it by you first. If you hate it then I can be pretty certain it'll be a rousing success. :) :sneaky:

I can't justify $500 for a toy. Maybe when I'm out of college and not broke.

To some, it definitely is solely a toy, and then the affordability is up to your finances.

To me, it is purely a toy as well, but $500 is well worth it.

kind of like how just because you don't believe it, 80% of Americans do not believe in God. Right?

Now you're just trolling. +1 for the ignore list. You've deserved to be on it for ages; I don't know why I haven't bothered until now. Bye bye!

Weight and size do not fit into my list of desirables. I don't give a shit if my laptop is 4lbs or 40lbs. I want it to function. If I'm going to pay more than $500 for a computer, it had better come with hundreds of gigs of storage, an optical drive, be able to sit properly on its own without purchasing MORE products just to get it to sit properly, blah blah blah. To me, the iPad isn't worth more than $200-$300

Then you're in the minority. I would bet that for the majority of laptop owners weight and size is a priority. When I started my new job, I was offered the option of a 12", 15.6"" or 17" Thinkpad. The majority of folks here use the 12" Thinkpad. But you want to know something funny, recently all new laptops issued are dual-boot MacBook Pros.

And you are right, for some people $200-300 is their price range for a tablet and that was proven by how quickly the iPad sold out when Verizon priced them at $299. But since the competition charges more and iPad 2's are sold out everywhere, even being resold 2-3x retail price overseas, why should they charge less if they can't even meet demand now?

I don't care whether I'm in the majority or minority. I have an opinion. This is how it is. Dont' like it? Don't argue with me trying to change my opinion. If you think it's worth it, go waste your money. :)

It's an expensive toy. To me, it can't replace a real computer. Everywhere I go there is a computer, and no need for a tablet. I can use my laptop on the couch, or my computer in my office. If I'm at work, I use the computer there. I have zero use for an Ipad.

Then again I can't understand how people watch movies/tv on their Iphone. It's like paying a shit load of money to have an inferior experience.

For what it is worth, it isn't any different from you calling name at Apple customers. Last time I checked, no one is forcing you to buy an iPad. You are still free to go buy whatever is the next best alternative to the iPad.

I like how you have to resort to personal attacks because you don't have anything to say and nothing to add to the conversation.

Crawl back under your rock. That's one more for the ignore list.
Apple could serve feces on a cardboard square and their dumbass dipshit customers would flail their arms and fling piles of cash everywhere to buy it.

Correct, watching a movie on an iPhone is desperation.

I'd prefer to watch it on my laptop or, I can see an iPad as a secondary desperation device.

But, some people think watching a movie on a Laptop is desperation, why bother when you have a 50" Blu-ray with hi-def sound as an option?

Haha. Each first-purchase of a movie on an iPhone should come with a pair of binoculars :D

I'll watch movies on my phone when I'm laying in bed and have something else going on TV.

Yeah...I'm ADD. Deal with it :p

I'm ADD too, but when I'm laying in bed, I think an iPad would be a much better use of my eyes for simultaneous video watching.

I'm all for iPads and tablets in general. I just haven't found a need for one. I want one really badly I just can't justify it right now.

I will buy one as soon as one comes out that gives me something my current combination of Droid X and desktop PC cannot.

Yes, well for us, they are toys, and they must always be justified after the necessities are budged for...

I might get one to use in class for Grad school, maybe next to my Macbook Air if it seems more convenient and less clicky and intrusive.

My flipping employer is forcing us to lock up our phones at work :(

We're all switching to iPod touches and leeching the hospital's WiFi, I think I'm getting a used current gen 32GB iPod Touch on Monday.

I really need to list some phones in FS/FT

holy crap, they didn't require locking prior?

I don't even like Apple (their misleading advertising really pisses me off). Hell, you should see how I react when people look at my Zune HD and give me that, "Oh, I guess you couldn't afford an iPod Touch." look but I digress. But even I agree the iPad is a killer product.

Several reasons have been mentioned already but you got to admit, timing was crucial. We have reached the age where everybody wants to be online all the time. Back when Microsoft tried to push Windows XP Tablet PCs, people hadn't yet reached this 'I always need to be connected to Facebook/Twitter/a thousand different streaming-video options to keep myself entertained and engaged' state that they have today. A lot of us were OK checking our email twice a day and downloading pr0n on Kazaa on our desktops.

If your need for 24/7 connectivity emanates from a need to always be productive, get an ultraportable. If you need to be entertained all the time, get an iPad. For some people, the iPad can serve both needs well but I tend to think this slice of users is a minority. For everybody else, a decent smartphone or a dumbphone and iPod touch would suffice.

<--- carries a Nokia dumbphone + Zune HD 32GB. No need for productivity on the move, nor a need for more entertainment options.

We've just barely started getting any real competition. The Galaxy Tab sold fairly well but the Xoom didn't as we know. It's just like cellphone world, Apple jumped ahead and got a HUGE head start but with so much competition they'll get overwhelmed by the huge influx of competitors.

What's sad about that is the Zune HD is better hardward, and the Zune music subscription model is 50x better than iTunes. For $15/month, you get 10 DRM free songs and unlimited DRM songs. Awesome.

I'm sticking to my guns.

The iPad will be king for a long time to come.
