I like to publicly scorn and humilate discourteous public cell phone abusers, especially the ones who act like using their phone in public makes them look cool. My favorites are to say things out loud like, "Oh, you must be so important!" or "What a status symbol it is to own a cell phone these days now that they cost less than a home phone!"
So when I absolutly MUST answer my phone for business in public, you would try to scorn and humiliate me? Wow, must feel great to be a complete ignorant asshole.
Most of the time it IS that important that I MUST answer it immediatly. Or my schedule and the work I am handling stops dead in its tracks.

I understand your stance if you have a lackey job where it's not important to contact you ever. My cellphone is my lifeline to my business.
I use my phone for business in public all the time. The difference is courtesy and etiquette. Does your business require that you answer your phone in the theater? Or in a restaurant and then yell personal details loudly to everyone? Do you flaunt your phone to make sure everyone notices that you have one and that someone actually called you on it?
That is what I was referring to, if you slow down a moment to get a grip, a clue, and some reading comprehension skills.
Someday you will come up with a better dis than "reading comprehension", though I'm quite sure it will take a while to write new material.

I've had a job where I HAD to answer the phone, no matter what, no matter where I was so a theather was fair game. Yes I would run out of the theater while I answered it, but I was still in the theater while I took the call. Sometimes in a restaurant I would have bad reception, so I would have to raise my voice a bit.
Either way, I don't really care if someone doesn't like me using my phone in public. If you have a problem with it, my zipper is right below my belt. ;)

Who seriously changes settings to their cell phone when they enter an elevator, or go to a mall or a party? I increase my ring at the mall or at a party, but they seem to have forgotten that option.

Scored 79. I don't think I need to make any changes.

And now my two cents:

The using it while in line at the store or bank seems fine, but when its your turn put the call on hold or hang up. That is so damn rude. I work at a grocery store and I ignore anyone on a cell phone. I ring up their groceries and hand them a receipt without saying a word.

If you're in a fine restraunt take your call outside or not at all, but if you are sitting at McD's I don't see a problem.

At a hospital, its a good idea to turn off your cell when in the ER or ICC. There is the chance of screwing up equipment.

Oh and Vic, your comments to people of cell phones could only humilate you. They are immature at best.
"status symbol" or "so important" ? I mean really, if everyone and their mother has one how can either of those comments apply?

I always thought I was a courteous cellphone user until the other day. I was at the theater to see Catwoman and, during the worthless previews, I figured I'd call my friend. I was using an indoor voice that was just loud enough for my friend to hear me over the annoying preview noise. Before long, some wannabe-cop clown came and told me to hang up the phone or leave the building. I told him that it was my damn phone that I paid my money for and I was talking to my friend and he had no business telling me what I can and cannot do because this is America and I'm free to do as I damn well please and I wasn't going to let the White Devil keep the black people down. He then grabs me by the arm and pulls me outta my seat and starts dragging me out of the theater. Well, he done pissed me off now, so I decide not to resist and I'm gonna follow him out to the lobby so I can kick his ass, right? Anyway, we get to the lobby and I courteously tell him that he can go screw himself and hit him smack upside the head with my Big Gulp movie drink. You know what happened next? This jackass maced me! Can you believe that racist bastard cracker cop pulled that crap on me?

Anyway, long story short...yes, I'm very courteous with my cellphone and I won't be changing anytime soon.
