I just thought it would be cool if we went back to the moon with all the new technology we have. I also think it would be a nice feel good for the country considering the last year we have had.
What do you guys think?

What purpose do we have there?

Feel good is kinda pointless, especially considering the danger to the individuals involved.

I think the reason is that there is no science to be done on the moon right now and the money is better spent elsewhere.

Until we find something useful to do on the Moon why go back? It would probably be fairly easy to do now compared to the 60?s. Plus the government doesn?t have the budget for space exploration anymore with the advent of so many social programs and other spending. :)

the reason we went to the moon was political, it was to become the "leader" in the space race and commit the soviets to spending large sums of money to catch up. it was to intimidate the soviets. it was a propaganda tool.

we now are in a post-cold war era

we have invested in the "international" space station. we want everyone on board, and everyone to like us. we want to have our fingers into everone elses space program and space program budget so they don't screw us in outer space - its the "new" way.

no pressing national interest or security issue in going to the moon.

if a democrat suggests it - the republicans will say - "see - just another bloated goverment project of dubious worth"
if a republican suggests it - the democrats will say "see - a transparent attempt to increase the military budget at the expense of the sick and the elderly"

no overarching political upside to doing it! - the public won't pay for it!

Still plenty of cheese down here.

Seriously, Nasa's budget is pretty strict these days and there are many other new adventures on their "to do" list. You might see private enterprise checking out the moon in 20 years or so. There may be some things there worth mining.

Probably because we've never actually been to the moon!!!! It was faked and one of the greatest government cover-ups!

And yes, I am 100% serious in my statement!

Canada will get there first to colonize the moon ;)

Zero G Beer Brewery :D :D : D

but seriously I think all the science that can be accomplished on the moon can also be done on the international space station.

A lot of people, including me, would gladly risk their lives to get a chance to go, so that's not a problem.

But limited funds, and no need to go there are the reasons.

Better to just build the ISS and send more mars probes.

We have a political system in which only a particular kind of moron can be elected. The only strategic thinking that can take place is how to be re-elected in the next election.

It is well known that going back to the moon would be one of the most strategic, intelligent, and well-founded decisions a president could take.

Wrong. We have been to the Moon.Reason we are not going back is because we are already there. We have a permanent base on the dark side of the moon, a base shared with aliens.

^--- Yup, it's true.

The thing about those we didn't go there conspiracy's is that don't you think the Russians would have figured that out themselves and published something? I mean if some stupid TV networks could dig up enough "evidence," don't you think the Russians at the height of the Cold War could have as well?

Oh and I forgot to add...

The greatest government cover-up ever was September 11th. It was either done by the USA to get the $5 Trillion in oil under Afghanistan, Isreal to destroy their enemies at America's expense, or the Illuminati in the first stage of their global take-over. I am 100% Bin Laden didn't do it. We have no proof of him doing it but that video that looks really fake and has a lot of noise. Tsk tsk, trillions of dollars and that's the best video America could make...

haha,

conspiracy theorists make me laugh with their nonscense and what not. Everyone knows that "Russia" is just a pretend country intended to spur the American economy. It is actually R.U.S.S.I.A. -Really Undercover Secret Service Intelilegence Agents
