How come no one here talks about the Corvette?

Just a random thought... the Z06 gets a mention here and there but it seems like there should be G35 key in everyone's keyboard here. :D Too common of a car eh?

G35 and a Z06 are two totally different classes of vehicles.

There is no basis for comparison.

Perhaps a 350Z in it's top trim vs a Z06, but even then the Z is hopelessly outperformed.

I love the Vette, especially the Z06. I'm guessing it doesn't come up as much as the G35 because it is far more expensive.

cuz no vette bashing is acceptable:p

dont worry fixation on here is cyclical..not to along ago everyone was raving about how great and reliable vw and audis were....now they are bashign them

besides i find it curious everyone talks about how great a particular car is but then the other threads indicate the majority wouldnt buy a new car.. just strange to me....

I once saw a Z06 someone had slapped a wing off a Cessna on the back... I never wanted to pull someone out of a car and beat them as bad as I did at that moment...

Oh, did I mention the the giant asian characters on both the front and back windows? Or the "Type R" and "NOS" stickers?

Lots of people talk about the Corvette here, just not the dim witted ricer idiots that frequent the "what kind of car should I get" threads. :)

Corvette's aren't worth talking about if you ask me. Boring look, always lose at drags, don't sound good; if you ask me, Chevy should have dropped the Corvette, not the Camaro.

AMEN,
The Trans Am WS6(with Ram Air) looks better than a vette and actually is faster

OK, my bad, between the two is really a drivers race. just the non vette is 10K less

Meh - just a boring car without much personality. The Corvette's design doesn't do anything for me, it's about as exciting as a Cavalier.

That is all sorts of a blanket statement. Looks and sounds are subjective, although most car enthusiasts would prefer both of the Corvette to the Camaro. It does not always lose at drags, that depends entirely on what's been done to the cars. Stock it is faster than the Z28/SS, and the Z06 is faster than the WS6. It also handles respectably. Hard to find a car that performs as well in that price range.

Because they actually have horse power and don't have fart cans, or other stupid paraphenalia weighing them down.

OK, here's my reason for liking the f-body(which i'm gonna get and let my GF drive my current car.

Q: How much horsepower does the LS1 really have?

A: This is an interesting question that has sparked many debates recently. From 1997 up until 2000, the LS1 in the Corvette had an advertised 345 HP. From 1998 up until 2000 the LS1 in the Camaro Z28 and Pontiac Trans Am had an advertised 305 HP, and the horsepower in the Camaro SS and Trans Am WS6 had an advertised 320 HP.

It is pretty much believed that the HP ratings on the F-bodies are underrated. GM didn't want the F-bodies to be too close to their flagship Corvette, however the HP output between the two cars is actually very close. The Corvette is a little higher, and 345 HP is a realistic measurement, however the F-bodies are actually closer to 325-340HP. Depending on whether you have an automatic or a 6-speed, your HP rating will vary due to the automatics having more drivetrain loss. Most LS1 F-bodies are dynoing between 270 and 290 rear wheel horsepower depending on the transmission.

The best way to find out how much HP your LS1 puts out, is to take it to a dyno because each car is a little different. There is a slight increase in HP with the SS and WS6 cars because they have freer flowing intake air and a better exhaust, but the difference is maybe only 10-20 HP. If you have a regular Z28 or Trans Am, then realize that your 305 HP car is really underrated by at least 20 or more horsepower.

The Corvettes will still post slightly better 1/4 mile times, even though they have pretty close to the same HP output only because they have a better 50/50 weight ratio, they have 18 inch wheels in back (more grip), and are a little more aerodynamic. However the Corvette will only really start to pull on an F-body at speeds of 100 or greater.

With a little bit of modifications, if is VERY easy to get the LS1 F-body into the 350 HP+ range.

Well the 427 Vette is a completely different story. I'm making a generalization about the later vette's because I assume the original poster isn't talking classic vette's. They are a lot better than the one's being manufactured today.

Well the way I look at it, most of those ricers that brag about beating vetts and any other american made muscle car, never think Ya I just blew
away a factory stock car with my car that I just dumped 50k of mommy and daddy money into it so I can look like a moron for the ladies on main
street.

Now take that 50k and drop it into that Vette or Camaro and race
them!

Why don't people like Corvettes more? They are virtually supercars, and at the very least better than Supras.

I've never seen any head2heads, but I think that a newer Z06 could trounce the fastest of all C3 Corvettes, the 69 L88. 6 gears > 4 gears.

Also, I would disagree with the statement that older vettes are better than newer ones. Newer Vettes are more reliable and handle better than even late C4s. A perfect example is the OptiSpark in C4s that goes after about 60,000 miles like clockwork.

Vettes aren't drag machines, they're track cars. That being said, they perform both jobs well. I love mine (96 CE LT1/auto Z51,G92)

What does F/R weight ratio have to do with dragging?

Would you guys purchase a 97 Trans Am with T tops for 7500? I have found one on Hawaii and might get it since the Hyundai dealers on Hawaii are insane. What do you people think?

Ok... 60k vette + 50k worth of mods = 110k.

10k '98 240SX + 10k worth of mods = smokes a vette and looks better, too.
