If your cuttin corners and carvin the road its VERY nice, but to go see Grandma in? Too rough. No back seat. Little trunk. High insurance. Makes it impratical as a daily driver for the most part.

The ride quality is very dependent on how the Vette is optioned out. For example, the 50th Anniv's come stock with the electronic ride control off the Caddys. Smooth as silk. OTOH, the Z06 has a similar suspension setup to the Z51 package on C4 Vettes, which was the handling package used in the Corvette Challenge (88-89). Rides rough, but handles great.

There are options that give the driver a control that allows you to set the ride quality, in the cabin, in real time. Unsure what the C5 code is, but for the C4 is was FX1. A lot of people went for it, as the smooth made the Vette ride like a normal car, but a quick turn of the rotary switch and it was tight again.

No back seat isn't a valid complaint in this type of car. The 2+2 setup of most sports coupes are not usable for more than two people. Which makes them storage, just like the cargo area in the Vette.

Insurance is not that high, especially compared to Camaro/Firebirds. Less Vettes wrecked. Replacement is high, but it is for any car with a 50k sticker, again not a valid complaint at this level.

Vettes can be used as daily drivers. My dad drove his to work every day for 6 years. What it can't be used as is a soccer mom van.

EDIT: Forgot to add, that used C4s can be had for 15k and under, depending on location. Much better bargain than that 240SX that was talked about earlier in the thread. Plus, insurance on a used Vette is much lower, as the ins would only have to write out a check for 15k in case of accident instead of 50k.

My comment on ride quality was in regards to the Z06. Most of my comments were, only because I believe if your gettin a Vette, get the Z06.

No backseat is a valid complaint if you only have 1 car. A single car family just shouldnt get a Vette due to practicality (For the most part)

And no backseat is a huge valid point for me.....Where do I put my subs? :D

He's right... no backseat is not a valid complaint for a sports car. Lets face it, a Z06 isn't going to be your primary driver (even though it could). It is most likely your 3rd, 4th, or 5th car.

Damnit, listen
Cars of this price MOST people on this board wont own 2 of. Thus, you dont have the Benz in the garage and the Vette in the driveway. Alot of people on this board could probably swing one OR the other. So, if you get to buy ONE expensive car, it has to fit more then 1 bill. Thus, no back seat *is* a valid complaint in terms of choosing what 1 nice car to buy.
In overall terms, no its not a complaint. Most sports cars dont have back seats. Everyone who buys a sports car knows this, but its also something you take into account when car shopping and you cant say "Deliver the Benz on the 19th and bring the Vette by on the 20th".

z06 new runs around ~50~.. most people here cant afford that.. muchless a 350z or g35coupe.... or wrx.. or hell even a car.. :) lots of kids, lots of people in college.. just seeing fancy new cars and wanting them.

then theres the rest of the crowd..

:)

If I could afford a low-end Corvette I'd buy a boxter.

If I could afford a high-end Corvette I'd buy a 911

Either way, the Corvette has the engine in the wrong place. :)

The Corvette is probably the only car I really like that Chevy makes. (besides the trucks) One of the ultimate sports cars available. However, I must say the interior is pretty cheesy. But that's ok because the 350 (or 405) horses makes up for it. If I already had a daily driver, I'd buy a z06 as a weekend car.

C5 is referring to the body style. The original Corvette that came out was C1. The next redesign was the C2, and so on. Today's Corvette is the C5. The 2004 model will be C6. :D

C1
C2
C3
C4
C5

I can't wait for C6. :D

To make it more distinguishable from the coupe.

It really should be the other way around because the coupe has a smaller drag coefficient than the Z06. But, with the 405HP, I don't think that matters much. :D :p

Everyone respects the Corvette here.

There's nothing controversial about that car, hence not a lot of discussion about it. I mean there is nothing bad you can say about it. You might argue it has a crap interior, but when you look at the cost of the car, you understand that the interior is fine for a car costing that little for the awesome amount of performance that it has.

There really is nothing wrong with the Corvette, hence no discussion about it.

Whoa.

:D

There was a guy who had one for sale down the road. It was like $3000. I figured at that price, there must be something wrong with the engine (or the guy).

Maybe when I get rich...

Well, some vehicle sales you will find simply because the person selling the vehicle needs the money. A guy at work sold his 'cuda that his dad gave him when he graduated HS so many years ago because he needed the money to pay rent. :( Check out the car for sale. Get the VIN number and call 800-222-1020 and follow the prompts to Customer Assistance. With the VIN, they might be able to look up the car and tell you some basic repair information about it. You never know. You might have found a gem in the rough! :)

Ok I just read the rest of the thread.

The 240SX vs Corvette is ridiculous...and I owned the freaking 240SX. The 'Vette wins stock for stock in most cases. If you include really tight auto-X, then its usually the smaller cars that win (regardless of how good the Vette is). But thats moot since it doesnt' show hte potential of the Vette.

When it comes to modding, such as a 240SX with 10k of mods compared to a Vette...well those comparisions are useless as well.

Any modded car can beat another modded car. It all depends on how much money you put into the car.
That said, the 240SX, along with a Miata/S2000/etc.. is a very good base to create an awesome handling car. btw, 240SX are raced in SCCA circuits.

To the guy who said why buy a 50k Vette, when you can buy a Porsche. Its the other way around buddy. Why buy a 100k 911 Turbo when you can get a Z06 for half the price with 95% of the performance?

Now take that 50k and drop it into that Vette or Camaro and race them!
Ok... 60k vette + 50k worth of mods = 110k. 10k '98 240SX + 10k worth of mods = smokes a vette and looks better, too.
There is no replacement for displacement.
THANK YOU
