I've dealt with Toshiba, IBM, early Gateway, and Dell laptops. I just started working for a corporation that is a HP shop.

I removed a DVDR drive today and was shocked at how flimsy it was designed. The rails are tin foil like.

And what's with using screws to hold a removable bay unit in place? How 90's.

I do like HP servers though.

I have an IBM T41 and T42. T stands for tank.

My fan broke and I played too much WOW on my T61, the motherboard fried. I went to the repair center in Hong Kong (I purchased the notebook in the US), they switched in a new motherboard and cleaned my notebook in two days. Best in warranty repair service ever.

After getting my first X60 last year, I cant even think about owning a non-Lenovo anymore. The T and X series are the highlights, and you will usually see T's and X's in corps from what I've seen. R's and Z's are more entertainment oriented, thats not to say that the T series is something to sneer at either. Just sold my X61 Tablet cuz I don't need it and need the cash :(

I've been thinking about recommending a thinkpad x300 (ultraportable, solid state disk) to the ceo of my company, and eventually the other partners - they have sony vaios now, and I'd like to move them onto something else.

Good to hear. I was planning on getting a T61 for when I go out there.

I went from an R50e to a T60. I love the Thinkpads.

Yes, the Thinkpad T series 14" come in 1024x768 and 1400x1050. The 15" ones come in 1024x768, 1400x1050, and 1600x1200.

These are great machines. Where else do you get sub $1000 machines that are just 1" thin, have awesome battery life (my 6 cell T60 gets 5+ hours with wifi on, web browsing). The trackpoint is essential. You can navigate while keeping your hands on the keyboard, and the middle mouse button lets me open new tabs very easily in Firefox. The keyboard also has great travel and feels great.

For those T4x users who need a windows key, you can map the right alt to the winkey through one of the Thinkpad utilities.

As an example of great value, my friend just got a T61:
14.1" SXGA+ 1400x1050 screen
Core 2 Duo T8100 (Penryn!)
1GB DDR2
160GB 7200RPM (very fast Seagate Momentus drive)
DVD burner.
Price? Just $746.

Where else do you get tremendous battery life, SXGA+, a Penryn CPU, a 1" thin laptop with a magnesium build, and a big 7200RPM drive for under $750?

I have an R51e - got it 2 years ago for like $700, and the only complaint I have is the screen resolution.
