Don't all the major brands offer the same processors for their non-subnotebook models? Hard to believe there could be a significant speed difference between brands with the same processors. Graphics cards and gaming support are a waste of money on business machines, so differences there are irrelevant.

Similarly it is tough for their to be any ergonomic difference when every model is a keyboard connected to a monitor. I suppose some have legs on the back, which you shouldn't use anyway because they prevent you from keeping a straight wrist. The ThinkPads do have the microjoystick, which lets you keep your hands near the home keys and mouse around with just a finger instead of moving your arms or wrists. So ThinkPads seem to have one of the few ergonomic differences possible in their favor.

it's based on the research that 99% people post same shit without publishing a 4-month comprehensive study consisting of 150 pages for your anal ass.

In that case then your premise "How come most company laptops are IBM thinkpads" is totally wrong and will yield useless responses.

im sure its better than my work dell. i have 2 batteries and none of them hold a charge... i mean literally not for long erthan 60 seconds of operation (they both must be plugged in constantly). whole thing squeaks and rattles. display lid feels floppy and loose. mousepad buttons have no tactility and feels like they want to fall off.

the only good thing about it is it has a beefy video card for industry 3d app

They may use the same processor, but what motherboard, chipset, and memory they use will make a tremendous difference in speed.

What were the positives on the other two? Aside from price.

*It's just way too boxy. Can't stand the Fn key being on the left of Ctrl, so I always end up pressing Fn instead of Ctrl when I want to copy, paste or undo.

*I also don't like how the Esc key is on top of F1 instead of being on the left. So I always end up pressing F1 instead of Esc, bringing up the stupid help menu.

*Resolution is way too low. I'm using T60. It's 1024 x 768 at max.

I'm just comparing it to some of the consumer-grade laptops.. that are much faster, sleeker, better resolution, better ergonomics AND CHEAPER.

we tested IBMs here, as well as winbooks, lenovas, HPs and Dells. for the most part, dell is used throughout the company. the owner loves his toshiba and has me buy him a new one every two years. the IBMs are still here, sitting on a shelf in the back room. the dells we have are all still running, as well as being out on dirty job sites and rarely in air conditioned/ clean environments and seem to last a few years. mine gets used outdoors more than indoors, and is in use more than 12 hours a day. its going on 3 years old, and the only repairs i had done was due to a power spike through a USB comm connection i had with an industrial PLC. i have no issues with support, its been good for the last 7 years that we have been using mainly dells. no one liked how the IBMs sat and felt, and it seemed like i was always working on them. i make the laptop guys here bring them in every 6 months and let me tune them, and usually its just for updates and file transfers.

What? My company gave me a T61. It's the best laptop I have ever used (I have owned 4 already). My gf has a T60. Her resolution does not stop at 1024 x 768.

There are T60 models that can have a max resolution of 1600x1200. I think the laptop's poor resolution is due to a poor decision on your company's part.

Thinkpads aren't cheaper than DELLs, but you have to admit they're built much better. Try bending or twisting a DELL and a Thinkpad T/X and see what noises you hear and what parts warp.

Because they last a long time. I still have TP 600Es that are still running, I even have a TP 701 that still works. They just last a long time even when the letters on the KB are faded completely way. Yes, they are ugly, but I am not an "apple" kind of person. I just want my shit to work and work well, not to show off the blue underglow LED or crap like that.

I cant count the number of people that ask me to LOWER their resolution TO 1024x768 on a T60 and T61.... (I think they are blind)
You got something wrong with yours if it wont go any higher.

I'll be honest - the thinkpads I've used now at my current job just haven't done much for me/blown me away. (R40, and now a T60) I still always have and will always hold my old Latitude D505 as the best laptop I've ever used/had, personal or work.

I think Thinkpads are a little overrated.

Used to work for IBM... thinkpads are about the only thing we did right... then we sold our laptop/pc division to Lenovo

All of our T60's and 61's have a Windows key. The T43's and below don't though.

I have a T42 that has been rock solid for years, no problems and I don't exactly treat it very nicely. It gets bangs around, is out in my truck all weekend when the weather is well below freezing, and it starts up fine every Monday morning. Couple of the keys are in strange places, but its a tank. In the past I've had dells which were merely ok, and an HP which was slick, but felt cheap and flimsy. This old beast has out lasted them all.

I'm use my TP 600x more than I use my desktop. I don't know when they built that thing, but I've had it for 6 years, prior to that my uncle used it.

I can honestly say that was the worse thing they ADDED to the Thinkpads. I hate the winsows keys, just my opinion.

I'm on my second thinkpad, first was sold to upgrade to a X31. It's not the latest and greatest by any means but it does everything that I ask of it and it's rock solid.

My friend has gone on 2 tours of duty to Iraq (14 months and 7 months respectively), and before he left I got him I believe a used T30 thinkpad. During his first R&R trip home, I replaced the keyboard and cleaned the sand out. During his second tour he shipped the laptop home so I could put a larger hard drive in it since he had it full of spyware and I shipped it back. He is naturally hard on everything he touches and I am certain a Dell would never of handled the abuse.
