I used my T60 to kill a man once.

Just playin'. Though I do believe it's up for the task if the need should arise.

My friend has gone on 2 tours of duty to Iraq (14 months and 7 months respectively), and before he left I got him I believe a used T30 thinkpad. During his first R&R trip home, I replaced the keyboard and cleaned the sand out. During his second tour he shipped the laptop home so I could put a larger hard drive in it since he had it full of spyware and I shipped it back. He is naturally hard on everything he touches and I am certain a Dell would never of handled the abuse.

I got a x31 as well. I upgraded the wireless, ram, and hd and now it's solid my needs.

I can honestly say that was the worse thing they ADDED to the Thinkpads. I hate the winsows keys, just my opinion.

You serious? Windows Key + D = quick snap to 'show desktop'. It's awesome.

I'm using my T60 @ 1280X1024, with an external NEC 17" display. Dual screens... no problems here. The T60 is built like a tank.

Not only do I love them for work, I buy them as my personal systems too.

Please tell me why? I just don't get it.

You obviously disagree, but the IBM ThinkPads that I have used have been far and away the best laptops from an ergonomic standpoint that I've ever used. The design is terrifically practical, most of them have any port you could ever need, and they are durable beyond all reasonableness.

I love them, great machines.

I've got a Lenovo T61p and I love it.

Well built, like the feature set. It's also quite a powerhouse, very high res screen.

And durable durable durable.

Thinkpads are to laptops like HPs are to home printers. They make other things but these are the things that they do right.

HP's home printers are pure crap. Their business lines are halfway decent, IIRC.

lol make up your own simile then! I'm just saying, my most stable laptops have always been thinkpads. And didn't we discuss E Equals MC2 and his OP failure?

dude, thinkpads are hands down the BEST laptops in the business. Build quality is unmatched and durable as heck. I really can't say any laptop even comes close.

OP. What's wrong with the ergonomics? How much does it weigh? What size is it? What wrong with the design? You haven't really provided any details to back up anything you've said.

*It's just way too boxy. Can't stand the Fn key being on the left of Ctrl, so I always end up pressing Fn instead of Ctrl when I want to copy, paste or undo.

*I also don't like how the Esc key is on top of F1 instead of being on the left. So I always end up pressing F1 instead of Esc, bringing up the stupid help menu.

*Resolution is way too low. I'm using T60. It's 1024 x 768 at max.

I'm just comparing it to some of the consumer-grade laptops.. that are much faster, sleeker, better resolution, better ergonomics AND CHEAPER.

Hmm my T60 goes up to 1400x1050. Your T60 is probably an older model with integrated graphics, now replaced by the T61. Either way I love my T60, its a solid laptop, and my next laptop will likely be a Thinkpad too. I concede that the T series is heavier than others in it's class, but if you want light you can go with the X series. Regardless I attribute the weight to it's solid construction.

I was just looking at laptops. The T61p can have a 1920x1200 screen. Mmmmmm... I really can't find a comparable laptop for what I want in the T61p from Dell or HP at a comparable price. The only thing I don't like is that it's a Quadra FX 570M graphics card.

My Family:

Dad: T20->X40->X60
Sister: T40->T61
Me: T60
Mom: R40 and 600X laying around the house

Pretty much nothing else is acceptable and you will be frowned upon

Just something to add, I think most people over 50 are going to have problems utilizing anything beyond 1024x768 on 14" screen.

hmm...i just cant get over that design...i mean, it performs well dont get me wrong. i was thinking about either a thinkpad, dell, or a macbook pro. im glad i went with the macbook pro, but still, the performance/size you get from the thinkpad is amazing.

We have 2 Thinkpads, one is actually an IBM and the other a Leveno. The newer one has been sent back 3 times so far in 2 months. The majority are Panasonic Toughbooks.

Man, I love my R51. I bought it 2 or 3 years ago on a tight budget, and its been through alot. I've dropped in puddles, tile floor, concrete, and wood floor. Only a couple of scratches on it.

All of our T60's and 61's have a Windows key. The T43's and below don't though.

IBM hangover.

IBM would not support windows keys, never really has (probably and exception or two).

My previous two employers liked Dell Latitude 610's.
What laptop/supplier a big company uses has little to do with the IT qualities of said laptop, broadly speaking.

I love thinkpads. No nonsense styling, built like tanks. I use it at work and at home as well.
