How come I don't feel sore after working out?

Is soreness solely a result of working out, or does it also have to do with diet? I want to feel sore, so I know I'm accomplishing something. When I do exercises, I do 3 sets, 10-8-6. I'm not sure I'm hitting the right exercises though. I haven't done much at all of free weights, at least the big ones because I go to the gym solo and don't have a spotter. Any tips? I remember when I went with my more experienced friend once, I was SO sore that evening and the next day, though it was a good soreness. Just so you know I am pretty weak, so I don't think it should be that much of a challenge for me to get sore.

you should make it so you have some trouble getting up the 10 reps...then make it a lot higher for the 8..and make it heavy enough so you can just barely get the 6 up.

A better way to do it is to do it with 12,10,8,6..while increasing weight of course, and then for the final set do 12...then 12 reps of another excersice for that muscle..kinda complicated, but it's the body for life technique ;)

So every new set, I should up the weights by lets say 10% or so? And what are good techniques for doing that last rep, I mean when you feel you can't do it but you wanna force yourself. I know that's hard to explain but any breathing techniques or anything of the sort?

for me, I only feel sore when I start to work out (as in, start to do it regularly)

I'll be sore for 2 days and I'll never be sore again for the rest of the workout routine..

Short answer: Muscles tearing, and endorphans being injected into them.

EDIT- thought it said you DO get sore.

Also, when I'm doing my exercises, should I be doing fluid back and forth movements, or should I hold the extended position for a few seconds and then rest for a few seconds, or does it depend on the exercise?

Well considering I've never done it I'm a little afraid to be getting myself into something I won't be able to handle. I can just imagine my ribs getting crushed or something.

Any tips for what exercises to do fluid and which to hold, and what the difference in the results of fluid vs holding is? Just so you know, I just hit the gym without any idea of what I was doing. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out, but things like form I'm not sure about. Mainly I just watch other people.

Easy there, I heard you bodybuilders are moody but sheesh. I was asking in general. Still, thanks. When do you take it, right before and after working out?

Someone likes to get sore here, heh...?
Soreness is not good... Normally you may have it when you work out for the first time (then heavy and for two days or so...), but with regular training, there should be no soreness anymore...unless you do some really bad or wrong excercise...;)

If you feel sore, it doesn't mean you accomlish more/something...it's unhealthy...

If your body aches he wants to complain something and not to show you the thumb-up-thing...:frown:

Oh really, ok I guess since I'm not that knowledgeable about weightlifting I was under the impression that soreness was a good thing. Thanks for clearing it up, for some reason that cheered me up (like all the effort I've been putting in is actually making a difference!).

I am working out for years now (2-3 times a week) and I'm only sore, if had a break of about a month or so and go for training again for the first time.
Your muscles should feel weak for a while after working out, but I never feel sore, if I'm in a regular training cycle...except you try some new sort of workout for the first time or so...

Do some cardio prior to working out 10-15mins to warm up...
For optimal results (i assume here, you go to the gym for good shape and condition (like me), not to grow some wrestling muscles... ;) ) you should do workout training on different days than cardio, 'cos they are somewhat complementary...
For example: I go to the gym two times a week for workouts and two times for spinning (respectively running outside, depending on the weather...).
Sport is good for you, just do it. But do it right...:D

Spinning? Indoor Cycle...this bikes with the biy flywheels...

Btw regarding supplements: Vitamins should be enough...if you do excessive cardio perhaps some more C and E, for workouts some proteine shakes (I only do 'cos they taste good...).
But no other stuff, especially no caffeine! Jeez... not to talk about anabolika and stuff...:disgust:
