How can you not buy a macbook?

I'm been looking for a laptop, so I went to Best Buy tonight. They had a shitload of regular laptops and all of them paled in comparison to the macbooks. Since all laptops have more or less the same innards, the fit, finish and packaging is what really set them apart. The windows laptops ranged from OK to gaudy, ugly and tacky and not a single one of them was as thin as the macbook. I'm typing this on a 5 year old T42 - its in a nice slim 1" package, why the hell is Apple seemingly the only one making thin laptops?

Anyway, if I can't find one on craigslist and save a few bucks, I'll probably go pick up the 13" macbook tomorrow.

We have Mac forums, we have hardware forums, so the question is, "How can you not post in the proper forum?"

Now compare your $1,00 macbook to this $900 Dell. And yes I know that this one doesn't have the webcam so it doesn't match spec-for-spec, but there are tons of other configs available.

What's the price premium for thinness and sleek styling in otherwise equally speced models these days?

Yeah, I think it's fairly well explained. Macs are nice, sure, if you don't mind paying 60-100% more than you need to for the same amount of computing power. Then again, if you buy your PC's based on the fact that they're "thin and shiny/sleek" then you have other problems....but if it works for you, then by all means, go ahead.

:D

Macs are nice. Just not "$600 extra for pretty much the same thing" nice.

I owned a Macbook ... and sold the Macbook.

I found more usefulness in my current Asus netbook.

You've fallen for the marketing. Run away ...

My sister thought that she is being smart by talked her 15 year old son into buying a macbook for $1400 CAD. Tax and other software bring the macbook to just under $2K (poor kid was coned out of his hard earned money from working at Wendy's).

Being a mean uncle that I'm, I put the kid & his snotty mom in their place by showed them that I can do what ever his Mac could on a more powerful Linux laptop for less than $500 CAD.
