One. Button. Mouse.

On what is, ultimately, a one-button OS.

That would be like buying an automatic sports car. Some people like it, but those people should not be allowed to breed.

The current-gen Macbook Pros have a two-finger right click, and you can assign right click to the bottom right or left of the trackpad or use any external two-button mouse. This was once a legitimate complaint, but it's not anymore.

it remains a legit complaint, as that faux-right click is hardly a real click. fails on me 43% of the time at work.

just b/c they implement it, doesn't make it right. They actually have to make it work, see?

Maybe your trackpad is broken? I'm using a 13" MacBook Pro, purchased in August, and I've never had the two-finger-tap right-click fail.

The real problem is the lack of a middle-click. I use a Firefox extension which makes right-clicked links open in tabs, but it's annoying that I have to cntrl + click to get right-click behavior back for links in Firefox. The Thinkpad's three mouse buttons are better in this respect.

I'm not sure which company I dislike more, Sony or Apple. Sony's been riding on their name for years. Years ago their stuff was better than the competition, but that hasn't been the case in quite awhile. Now you're paying a price premium for nothing.

Just to put more flame on the fire, some new reasons just came out in the forms of the HP Elite 5310M, HP Pavilion DM3, HP Envy 13 and HP Envy 15. They are up on engadget.com and gizmodo.com has pictures comparing the Envy 13 to the Macbook Pro 13

Its a wonderful world we live in now. Sub 1" thick dual core laptops with 4-5 hours battery and less than 5 pounds.

Anyone know what the AMD Neo is? How does it compare to Intel's comparative processors?

I don't actually know where you guys are getting your prices from. I just went to dell.ca and played around.. a Dell Lattitude with comparable specs to the base 13" macbook is $1377 vs $1399, while a similarly configured Thinkpad T400 is $1358.

And yes, one can probably find deals on Dells and Thinkpads, whereas Apple doesn't have sales, but it would still not about to about a 10-15% premium.

The two best aspects about macbook pro
1. battery life
2. touchpad

IF any other laptop was able to match these two things, apple has no upper hand.

I did not know about them, they look pretty good:

But $1699? There doesn't seem to be that big of a difference between a solid PC and a macbook in terms of price.

The Dm3 and the 5310m both start ~$600 and are similarly sized.

Because I bought a quad core HP laptop with 4GB of RAM and a 7200 RPM drive for less than $1,400. Which costed LESS than a Macbook Pro with half the horsepower.

Go ahead and blow your money on the Apple tax. Too much money, not enough brains.

Well, lets say you needed to work on some papers and the power is down. So double the horsepower and yet you can only get half the productivity

The biggest selling point besides the OS is the battery life IMO.

Well, certainly that would suck during the 1 or 2 days of the year the power goes out (assuming I actually had work to do). But for the other 363 days of the year, that wouldn't really matter.

Plus, with the money I saved from buying a PC instead of a Crapbook, I could buy a few extra batteries.

Sony: the only computer manufacturer more overpriced than Apple

This goes to show, that there are mostly idiots that are buying these things, and they're definitely not buying for functionality if a decade old (computing terms) laptop can fetch that kind of money.

Yeah, I think it's fairly well explained. Macs are nice, sure, if you don't mind paying 60-100% more than you need to for the same amount of computing power. Then again, if you buy your PC's based on the fact that they're "thin and shiny/sleek" then you have other problems....but if it works for you, then by all means, go ahead.

lol... "I ll buy anything shinny and made by apple "

Eh honda civic will get you from A to B too, but people still buy Porsches...

Just like with everything in life, good industrial design, UI and materials go for premium money.

Please don't compare Macs to Porsches! And PCs to Civics. Come on? I think its the other way around. Buying a Mac is like buying a Honda Civic for the price of a Carrera GT. On the other hand, buying a PC is like buying a Honda Civic, but getting a Porsche in return. Way more powerful, play lots more games, and at the forefront of CPU and Graphic Card tech.

Uhhh that argument doesn't work - macs are obviously considered premium goods compared to say dell laptops given the cost alone. Same thing goes for the construction (aluminum frame, skin vs plastic).

People pay more for premium stuff, it's as simple as that. Ford sells the same car as both lincoln and ford, lexus does the same thing with the ES.

Hey dumb dumb, a Mac is not a Porsche. Just because they're priced as such doesn't mean it has the performance to back it up. If anything, you overpaid for a Civic with a freaking bodykit and maybe a fart can. But you're proud of it though.

Being a mean uncle that I'm, I put the kid & his snotty mom in their place by showed them that I can do what ever his Mac could on a more powerful Linux laptop for less than $500 CAD.

I'm sure you did. But just in case they didn't get it, you should go back next week and tell them how wrong they are for not using your superior Linux OS. Be sure to show off that sweet CLI.

But it's a professionally installed body kit with a custom paint job! ;)

This one time I was at an airline lounge running OSX on PearPC and playing Frozen Bubbles on SuSE on my Dell just to feel nerdy, all at the same time.

Apple fanboys never go silent. When they arent yelling loud its just cuz they're researching more "facts" from Apple fanboy sites to post here.

Lemme go find something on the interwebs:
My standard response to all Apple love threads outside of the proper forum.

Next time, he should just post in the All Things Apple section so folks will love him and support him, instead of verbally abusing him.

virtual desktops are god damn sweet, in my opinion, but i sure as hell dont need OS X to enjoy them. i find them particularly handy on a netbook.

I dunno about all the Windows humpers and Apple idiots out there, but I needed my mac because the programs I use here and at work can't be used in Windows, such as Final Cut Pro.

Everybody here can talk about how their computer has so much better specs for so much less money, but their computer can't do what I need to do.

When I need to game, I restart my mac, go to Windows in bootcamp and play TF2, Killing Floor or some emulator game. I pledge allegiance to no OS, unlike people here and on the mac forums. My lifestyle has nothing to do with it and both of you people who argue for your side as if the matter is black and white are as pedantic as you are annoying.
