Too many junk carbs/sugar (white flour, soda etc) combined with a sedentary lifestyle will do that. I lost like 10-15 pounds after I stopped drinking soda for 4 months.

Go look at Lamar Odom. The guy is fit. Granted he has tons of hours to work out and working out is part of his job but he eats candy and junk food like crazy.

Vid

You know there maybe something to this whole eat and exercise thing. He probably just doesn't have some genetics issue.

Seriously though....its pretty simple....Body composition is 90% diet......americans over eat, mostly on carbs, and they don't process carbs well.

it's obvious. a culture that grew up with the notion that food = reward and we want rewards for everything. highly effective media advertisements for the reward joints( fast food vendors) and numerous reward joints in populated metro centers. advertisement works. you see evidence of it waddling all around you.

Maybe I'll lay off 2 eggs a day.

Lay off the egg yolks, not the whites. Almost all the fat and cholesterol in an egg is in the yolk.

Na. Eat the egg. Drop the bacon. The whites have almost no nutrition. The yolk has all of it. And the yolks have good cholesterol. The whole egg white thing is idiotic. If you eat egg whites, you might as well just eat a napkin.

Unless you want protein. In that case just drink a half glass of milk.

It's not so much physics, it's just common sense. If you asked WHAT the fat person ate, it would all come together. (usually it's something along the lines of, "just 4 pop-tarts and a cream cheese bagel for breakfast"). If you ask what the skinny person ate for breakfast, it was probably a bowl of cereal, an orange, a banana, and a glass of juice.

You are seriously deluded if you think all or even most skinny people have markedly "healthier" diets than obese people.

I'm glad I've got good genes because with my eating habits and love of bacon, I should for all intents and purposes be a fatty myself.

We need more PE in schools. Exercise should become a daily must like showering, dental care, etc.

We're set up so that fatties (like me) don't feel bad about ourselves. People with poor diet and exercise habits *should* feel ashamed.

I feel fat after a KFC meal consisting of 1 grilled leg, 1 grilled thigh, 1 original recipe leg, 1 side macncheese, 1 side green beans, and 1/2 biscuit. :(

Same. People see what I eat and they usually say something like, "fuck you, I wish I had the metabolism of a skinny asian kid".

I don't understand how people let themselves get so fat either. I will admit I don't eat that healthy, though I have improved. Still, I'm 140 pounds. I was 110 for a very long time, but been gaining in the past 2 years due to gym / eating more, but I know my limit. Now that I hit 140, I've slowed down eating.

If I was like 300 pounds you can bet I'd be eating WAY less and going to the gym every day instead of 3 times a week.

The other day I saw somebody so fat, I had to second look, I thought it might of been a moose, bear, or weird looking truck or something, but the human clothes gave it away.

 Shaming people is the least effective way to get them to change. It's better to encourage them to find healthy foods that taste good and exercises and activities that they enjoy. Then they're more likely to enjoy being healthy and make it a habit.

We should be reaffirming people's positive choices and small victories, and not placing so much emphasis on the negative things they do. After all, if they have fast food occasionally or spend a bit of time gaming or watching TV, that's not a big deal, as long as it's balanced with healthier food and activities.

I know we all laugh about it, especially on AT where everyone has an 8-pack and bench presses 3 times their body weight, but "fatty bashing" is really not such a good thing.

I used to be kind of insanely fat... I mean, I'm still overweight and need to lose another 50-75 pounds, but I've lost 130-ish so far so I'm a good distance away from where I was at my worst.

I just didn't even realize it at the time. it's like living in a bubble... when I look back on pictures of myself from when I was at my heaviest (400+) it's disgusting, but when I was in that moment, the me I see on film wasn't who I saw when I looked in the mirror.

I say this as a fatty myself: Acceptance and tolerance of self-inflicted obesity only validates those behaviors.
