Just sayin'

le royal w/ cheese is a little over 500. I'm sure the "sit down" restaurant burgers are well in excess of that.

Lack of exercise, lack of knowledge in cooking, and the fact that the worst foods healthwise are often the cheapest.

It's not so much physics, it's just common sense. If you asked WHAT the fat person ate, it would all come together. (usually it's something along the lines of, "just 4 pop-tarts and a cream cheese bagel for breakfast"). If you ask what the skinny person ate for breakfast, it was probably a bowl of cereal, an orange, a banana, and a glass of juice.

Ha ha. You're both right.

How about lack of willpower?

Lay off the egg yolks, not the whites. Almost all the fat and cholesterol in an egg is in the yolk.

Na. Eat the egg. Drop the bacon. The whites have almost no nutrition. The yolk has all of it. And the yolks have good cholesterol. The whole egg white thing is idiotic. If you eat egg whites, you might as well just eat a napkin.

The whites have half the protein in an egg ~3 grams. You are still getting *something* from them.

People can say not enough exercise, but they ignore the fact that our lives are naturally becoming more sedentary. We have to adapt to that change. One adaption is to just be fatter, another is to change how and what we eat.

A lot of weight gain comes from micro events. Just an excess of 100 calories a day over the course of your teenage years could be enough to gain significant weight.

My personal opinion? We need devices implanted into the average person, maybe not everyone, just a sampling to start with so that the data can be used to help explain the problem. Something that could count how much food, calories, carbs, etc entered the body in a day and how much was used. Right now we rely on poling people, but how useful is that really? It doesn't answer the questions and it's all fuzzy math. If we had a device, we could finally answer these questions concretely. Maybe that fat person did eat less calories than they burned yesterday, so what happened? Maybe it has to do with what kinds of foods it was or maybe there is something wrong with their body.

We've become a country filled with tall buildings that consist of hundreds or thousands of people per building that sit on their ass in front of a computer 8 hours a day.

I don't think it's really all that hard to figure out.

Not true.

Egg White - total fat: 0.06g, protein: 3.6g

Egg yolk - total fat: 4.51g, protein: 2.7g

55-60% of the protein in an egg is in the white.

You're forgetting the niacin, potassium, calcium, and other minerals and vitamins. Get your protien from black beans during breakfast, my man.

Exactly...this is not just an American thing...this is a 1st world issue. Even China is now having alarming rates of obesity. Anyone who is claiming this problem to just being normal and "genetics" is full of crap.

Go to any country where loads of processed foods are eaten and you'll notice a lot of fat people.

http://www.cholesterol-and-health.com/Egg_Yolk.html

MUST READ.

As you can see from the table, the yolk contains 100% of the carotenoids, essential fatty acids, vitamins A, E, D, and K (6 items). The white does not contain 100% of any nutrient.

The yolk contains more than 90% of the calcium, iron, phosphorus, zinc, thiamin, B6, folate, and B12, and 89% of the panthothenic acid (9 items). The white does not contain more than 90% of any nutrient, but contains over 80% of the magnesium, sodium, and niacin (3 items).

The yolk contains between 50% and 80% of the copper, manganese, and selenium, while the white contains between 50% and 80% of the potassium, riboflavin, and protein.

It should also be kept in mind that the yolk of an egg is smaller than the white. Where the white contains a slim majority of nutrients, such as protein, this is not due to a greater concentration in the white, but simply to the fact that there is more white in the egg than yolk.

ANd. . .

Back to the Basics: Taste!

The truth is that most satisfying meals one could make with eggs just don't taste right without both the yolk and the white. Most baked goods come out with a richer taste and a better texture when the yolks are included. Food should provide good nutrition ? for which inclusion of the yolks is necessary! ? but it should also taste good.

Food should be fun. It should be rewarding to cook, delicious to eat, and relaxing to indulge in.

The anti-cholesterol establishment upholds its poor theory and unjustified conclusions only to condemn us to a bland and unsatisfying diet, the cornerstone of which is "light cooking" with bland and taste-challenged "foods" like the notorious, emasculated, yolkless egg white.

Fear not.

You are now armed with the raw facts from the USDA's nutrition database that shows that missing out on the egg yolks means missing out on the nutrition in your breakfast. Take heart in this the next time you enjoy the incredible, edible egg yolk.

^^^ that's the main point I like.

I boil 40-50 eggs in a go, then refrigerate them. Whenever I need them, I take 3-4 out, peel them (15 secs per egg) and eat the whites and some yolks. This is my quick solution for protein when I need it. This lasts me a week or so.

one theory is the shorter lunch time people get now. 30min just gets you enough time to run to the food court, buy fast food, come back to desk and eat.
