I have very unfond memories of a 1984 Ford Tempo 2.3L with the 3 speed auto...

It's 0-60 acceleration was glacial at about 14 seconds.

It's 50-70 acceleration was mostly noise. Passes had to be planned well in advance of the actual maneuver.

I had an 85 Tempo with the 5 speed. My Mom also purchased a later model with the automatic.
I'm sorry to here that you drove a Tempo.
I'm sorry for anyone who suffered through that.

(However, the 2dr GLS or whatever Tempo version it was that had the 3 liter Vulcan and 5spd combo could actually get out of it own way...)

I later owned a 91 Tempo GL, which was an improvement over the 84, but not much.

Makes you really plan your freeway merges carefully. I drove a friends VW bus for a while. Bet it could take the Citroen at the dragstrip ;)

one of my fave track moments was watching two vw buses (restored stock) taking a pass. it took over 30 seconds for the 1/4 mile run, the announcer was hilarious. "aaaaaaaaand 24 seconds into it, left lane has the lead. still..."

Lol. Saw the same thing once with bikes bracket racing. Some guy on a crotch rocket was up against a moped. The moped takes off and is barely moving down the track (like Big Wheel kinda speeds) and the bullet bike owner is trying to be patient but loses his cool and red lights. So funny watching the bullet bike guy start flipping out as he waits for the moped.

3.7 v6 Mustang + 4.11 gears= Fast as or faster than stock/ lightly modded 4.6 3v V8 Mustang GT, with an extra 5-10 mpg to work with.
