My daily driver and road trip mobile is a 12 year old Camry with a 4 banger.
Even loaded with passengers and luggage, it has no problem passing or merging with traffic.
Do I prefer having our Mazda6 (V6)) during those occasions? Sure. Hell I much have my bike for stuff like that.
However, the Camry does fine.

I test drove a 2013 Camaro convertible with the 323 hp V6 back in June, with the idea that I like the styling, but do I really need a V8? It could be just me, but I was not totally sold on the V6. It just didn't seem to have the power I was expecting. My wife has a Cadillac CTS with essentially the same V6, and to me the CTS (310 hp and 3,860 lbs) had more power than the Camaro convertible (323 hp and 4,078 lbs).

What did I end up buying? A 2013 Chevy Sonic LT sedan with a 1.4L Turbo and 6 speed automatic (a whopping 138hp and 2,745 lbs).

You must if you care enough to remember what I drive.

What we don't care for, is your narcissistic bullshit crapping on threads. He asked how do pony cars with V6's stack up? Not, "Hey, let's have a hose wagging contest on moral fortitude."

If I owned a 12 year old car, I would cut it some slack.

If I were purchasing new, I would want something faster.

I don't think the older Camry is that slow, anyway. It's probably close to 8 seconds with the manual trans. A 2003 Camry 4 cylinder is in the low 8 second range to 60. So it would be okay, even today.

No to mention that older cars tend to be lighter, and need less power to have good acceleration.

I've had my 150hp Acura for nearly a year now and I have never ever ever once thought to myself, "I need more power."

I have never had a situation where I couldn't merge with traffic quickly or pass a vehicle.

300hp is beyond ridiculous and wasteful.

Like I said, only on ATOT.

Why would you comment like that, when you own a car that is fast enough?

You clearly don't need 150hp. You would be fine with 125hp, so stop being wasteful.

You car weighs what? 3K at the most? You have too much power.

Only on ATOT does a person look at the 1/4 mile stats to determine if it's suitable for a daily driver.

300+ hp for a DD? Beyond wasteful.

This is pretty funny coming from the guy that spends ridiculous amounts of money on jeans.

How much HP a person thinks they need is a personal choice. I believe the v6 ponies to be a great balance between power and costs.

That being said I would still try very hard to find the extra $$$ for a v8.

Why stop there? I drove my dad's Citroen 2CV for months and it only had 28hp on a good day.

Mapleton has 3-4 times the horsepower he really needs. Baby seals everywhere are crying in disappointment.

He's apparently driving a car that uses a lot of fuel compared to something like a Cruze or Focus, besides also being slower than both.
He could be accelerating faster and using less fuel. :p

Makes you really plan your freeway merges carefully. I drove a friends VW bus for a while. Bet it could take the Citroen at the dragstrip ;)

I have very unfond memories of a 1984 Ford Tempo 2.3L with the 3 speed auto...

It's 0-60 acceleration was glacial at about 14 seconds.

It's 50-70 acceleration was mostly noise. Passes had to be planned well in advance of the actual maneuver.

I just sold my 2012 V6 mustang. It's no rental though it had the 6 speed manual and the 3:31 gears and let me tell you, it feels very quick and very light. Yeah if you step into a FRS and then immediately into the mustang it's going to feel big (or in my opinion the mustang feels right and the FRS feels TINY), but the stang tears it up. I actually have sellers remorse.

That being said...Mustang forums are filled with V6 owners wishing they had stepped up to the V8.

So are the Camaro forums.

I test drove the v6 Camaro. Plenty good enough but no where near muscle car performance. Like buying a 65 mustang with the 289.

Bought a 2SS Convertible. STILL NOT ENOUGH. Put a supercharger on it. Now we are in the fun zone. double the ponies of the V6.

I bet you drive around at 25 m.p.h. With your hands white knuckled at 10 and 2. Leaning as far forward as you can and your eyes are BOLTED to the road in front of you. The head does not move a twitch.

Yeah $100+ on jeans and drives a dumpy little 150hp car. At least he can step out of his P.O.S. lookin fly as hell.

My impreza has about 175hp. There's often times where I wish I had an extra 50hp on a few ramps around here. Luckily I do have stick so it's not AS bad, but it still sucks.

I'm buying a genesis coupe later on this week. Weighs more than my current car but the HP is literally double of what I have now. :drools:

Freeway would have been scary in that car. Top speed was 40-45mph unless you had a tailwind going downhill. I have no doubt the 2CV would have been punished by the your buddy's VW bus at the dragstrip (although I did watch a microvan stall out on a hill in 1st once ;) )

This is America jack, where it's not only allowed it's encouraged. We're talking PONY cars not some euro eco-weenie micro machine like a Citroen.

Hey now. It was the antithesis of a hot rod but it was kind of fun to drive. It's so narrow that your date has to sit very close. My wife said I totally won her over when I came to pick her up in "the clown car" for our first date.

Back OT - Kind of funny to think that today's V6 options are as powerful as the best V8s back in the late 90's early 2000's (barring the supercharged ones of course).

Actually she liked my dad's 28hp Citroen a lot more than my 400hp AV-gas swilling Camaro. Sometimes women have no taste. o_O
