It's too bad the schools are trash, public services are horrible, and health care is awful. As long as you have low taxes.

It’s pretty much exactly that and he’s not wrong. Quality of life can get a lot better if you’re a well off person living in areas of the US that would be considered third world.

Even with federal transfers Mississippi is very poor. Imagine it without. It would be a wasteland.

Even the destitute here have a place to live and 3 meals a day. The only area I know of where that isn't true is in Jackson. Housing is inexpensive because there isn't any population pressure, though it is increasing in my area because of people evacuating from Memphis and commuting to work.
Anyone that works from home could live here quite comfortably, my neighbor actually works for a company in Florida and fly's in to the office once a month. Fellow on the other side is a private pilot that fly's out of Olive Branch.

You do realize this is in large part due to federal transfers from other states, right? Literally 40% of the state's revenues come from it being given money by other states, receiving nearly $3 back for every $1 in federal taxes they pay.

Mississippi and much of the south are simply not economically viable places, in large part because they lack dense urban agglomerations that lead to economically competitive conditions.

Also worth pointing out that houseless people tend to live in places where you can physically exist without a/c. Some can migrate to relevant areas for work or whatever, but nobody wants to sit in human soup for 6mo of the year.

Homeless people also tend to exist where even the most basic accomodations are out of reach. It isn't the ability to live without AC that is the driving factor in where homeless encampments tend to arise.

Sure, if I found myself about to be homeless I would try to end up in Southern California.

Still though it’s sort of funny how people can be like ‘even the poorest are taken care of in Mississippi and my taxes are so low!’ when it’s true that they are taken care of…by the taxpayers of states they don’t like.

Southerners love to talk about a second secession or whatever, never realizing their entire economy would collapse without the largesse of the people they hate.

It’s basically housing costs. Again, West Virginia has one of the lowest homelessness rates in the country and it’s not because it’s an economic powerhouse.

You're a straight white male living off your retirement income in a low cost of living area, of course you're loving life. You literally made all of your money in a blue state and moved to a shithole red state to live like a king, what did you expect?

If there's one thing I learned while living in the south, rich white people fucking love their gated communities down there. Even better if there's an actual moat around the community.

"You can think of it as school segregation but you can also think of it as fascism. In my opinion, like gun bans or forcing density on NIMBYs you are working against human instinct and only by force of law can you succeed. The will to self preservation, the will to live in a natural setting, the drive for equality of races are built into our genes, in my opinion. I believe there are better ways to solve these difficult issues that can better fit with human nature. I can't say I know the answers but I trust my instincts when I sense the direction many seem to want to take is down one of these unnatural dead ends. I remember decades ago listening to an argument against nuclear disarmament presented with deep panic and sincerity not to cut nuclear missile development and manufacture because of the jobs that would be lost.

Logic without heart is dangerous, again, in my opinion. Logic is great but there is something else, something maybe akin to intuition of 6th sense, I call wisdom and it relates to knowing yourself that leads to transformation. Think of the Lord's Prayer, on Earth as it is in Heaven. What creates longing, empathy righteous will. No forget that, there are no words that will do.

In the case here and from my point of view density reminds me of ants, wonderful little robotic machines in their own way, but not the human way.

It makes me think of the fact that the Republican party wants more babies to feed into the machine"

Ironically, you are describing your own position as fascism.

Remember, YOU are the one who requires force of law to implement your preferences, not me. Nobody is forcing density on anyone, what we are asking is for you to stop forcing a lack of density on us.

You will vote for legislation that bans local control. I have repeatedly told you that I have always voted against my preferences and against my economic self interest. The force of self interested people around me established and work to maintain the zoning you complain about. Our lives must conform to the reality of the level of consciousness we find around us. Isn't it the stupidity of others on which authoritarians prey?

I see that as usual you did not address my appeal to the notion of heart and soul, whatever those are.

Amusingly enough that would make the 1st Amendment fascist as it uses the force of government to prevent people from using the force of government to suppress speech they dislike.
