The spoiled brats in the House Freedom Caucus are taking turns having shrieking hissy fits in order to tell the world just how important they are that they can shut down the gov't on a whim if they don't get their way and that they have a death grip on Kevin McCarthy's lugnuts to make it happen. Benny Hill's comedy episodes are far and away more sane than what's going on in McCarthy's House of Conservative Chaos.

I have no doubt that the morons have another, unstated goal for doing this besides just being their general worthless pissant selves. They probably think (and, granted, the term "think" is pretty facetious when used in the same sentence as the names of certain members of the red clown wingnut caucus) by shutting down the government it will further delay the Great Orange Turd's many upcoming trials.

Too bad for them it won't, whether we have a budget or not.

The discharge petition comes to the floor for a vote no matter what. The speaker cannot stop it. The only way to stop it I think is to kill is in Rules but that also needs a majority vote on the floor and given the margins if sufficient Rs sign on then that's not likely.

At the end of the day the House majority is a disaster and the body is going to have to swallow whatever the Senate does most likely.
It's amazing how as diverse as the democratic party is, with super thin margins they managed to pass major legislation and keep the government open. But Republicans that all basically have the same goals/"policies" can't perform basic functions of their jobs with thin margins. It's almost like elected people on how much the hate others and how big of assholes they are produces poor results.

When competence and results is generally a baseline expectation people in the Dem party are not rewarded for shitting the bed. In contrast enough R primary voters want their reps to shit the bed even if they're in it also. At a certain point hurting democrats is simply more important than not hurting everybody else or even themselves. The libs must be owned at all costs.

When you start with the base assumption that government does not work, then you don't gets upset when your policies make it so the government does not work.

Vivek Ramaswamy just put out an add declaring that, when president, he will shutdown the FBI and drain the swamp. Well, he'll be getting lots of votes from terriorists and serial killers

Shit, kinda forgot about this thread.

I'm back to ask "Will Hakeem Jeffries" be the next speaker?

I know it sounds completely daft (which I think just means silly/foolish) but I think he only needs those 9 Rs in Biden districts. Not sure what the procedure is and therefore number of votes. I think it's a simple majority.

edit: OK, turns out it would only be 6 of the 9 if the Ds vote as a block. Apparently there are currently 4 vacant seats, so I guess that could change but 6 would give them the magical 218.

MTV filed by Gaetz. Unclear where all the votes are either way. Leadership has to put it on the floor in 48 hours.
The circus is back in town!
Fun for all ages.. come one, come all!

Dems should threaten to vote with the R's and impeach McCarthy unless McCarthy gives concessions to the Dems.

heck, threaten to impeach him unless McCarthy switches sides and be a Dem :p

what happens in a tie ?
would love to see the instability that creates for the GOP no one wins :)
I think a tie does not vacate the chair.

But that's the problem - there are many no-win scenarios, including for Democrats. 42 days from now the government could shut down, and the House could still be hearing the words "a speaker has not been elected" as if on a loop. If Democrats joined the MTV, and this comes to pass, they could get the blame. But if Democrats stay out of the MTV, McCarthy will likely remain.

Well, if it happens, we know historically that is when the "alternate" House members start showing up to "find the votes"....

All the Democrats need to do is vote Present and McCarthy will remain. I think that is what is going to happen. He is a POS, but he just proved that when his back is against the wall he will work with democrats to get shit done.
Maybe he learned his lesson that the GOP is too dysfunctional for single party rule of even the one chamber.

McCarthy said he wouldn't give the Democrats anything to save his job and the Dems have taken him up on that.

Finally someone who understands shitheads like McCarthy will never keep their word. Time to play hardball with these fuckers.
Sure I’d be fine with a vote to keep the shithead however that vote comes with strings attached that MUST be performed before I vote.

Needless to say this majority isn't going to pass any appropriations bills while consumed with internal drama. So in roughly 40 days there will be another CR needed or a shutdown happens.
