Kudos to Jayapal for the best quote of the article.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, told reporters that Democrats will not vote to preserve McCarthy’s gavel.

“We are following our leader and we are not saving Kevin McCarthy,” she said.

Needless to say this majority isn't going to pass any appropriations bills while consumed with internal drama. So in roughly 40 days there will be another CR needed or a shutdown happens.

We all got into a panic because we all forgot that the GOP is all hat and no cattle; don't fall for it again. They don't have a coherent platform, they don't want to actually take a stand, they just want soundbites. So, every time when it comes down to it, they fold. They will again in 45 days. We will just have run on Continuing Resolutions until something breaks the logjam and either the Dem's get control of the house, the GOP gets enough moderate republicans to ignore the crazy ones and work with the Democrats to get a budget passed.
It might be a while.

So McCarthy is gone and some MAGA takes his spot? So slowly they get their hands on more and more levers of government?

Everyone is waxing poetic about the "moderate Republicans" coming to save the day, but they are gone. This is Trump's party now, fully.

First part, yes. Second part, still TBD.

I'm not sure there is anyone on the extreme side that can get enough votes to win. It's more likely a "real" moderate that can get some D support would win.

As if McCarthy himself isn't a effectively a MAGA Republican... just look at his voting history and what he's done. Even after the failed insurrection, he voted against certification, And continues to cozy up with MAGA.

He's not a MAGA, he just hangs out with them, gives them cover, and does what they say for the most part....

Yup chicken little thinking that Jordan or Gaetz or MTG will become speaker is insane. But how many rounds will the soon to be former spineless speaker keep putting his name up for consideration before finally quitting?

Unlikely because they’d need nearly every Republican to vote to install them. Even if that happened great watch nothing get done and see what people think of MAGA. Bring on the pain.
Basically the choice is long term continuous pain or short intense pain. I’ll choose the latter.

Gaetz putting up the motion again. Different R put motion to table the prior motion. Vote just started. Already 10 Rs voted no. So next vote to officially remove

Motion to table is going to fail, maybe not even very closely.

McCarthy said he wouldn't give the Democrats anything to save his job and the Dems have taken him up on that.
Going to have to defer to Rep Jeffries's experience on this one.
If he says to vote for kicking McCarthy, then they should.

Nobody wants to help him or trusts him but that's a consequence of how he's conducted himself to obtain and keep power.

Seems to be some confusion, but that's typical coming from Congressional level BS.
I believe the vote you are referring to, is whether to STOP the removal of the speaker.
No means yes, basically. Welcome to Congress.

This will immediately be followed by a vote where Yes means Yes.
