I know we're kind of laughing at the dysfunction of the GOP, but the sad reality is that there's a slow moving train heading down the tracks, and the US is tied to the railroad tracks.
I'm hoping it's the GQP tied to the tracks and the DNC is the train.

The plan now seems to be to pledge to vote for whoever wins the majority of votes in the next round. It they can get that pledge and people stick to it we will get a Republican favored idiot for speaker and have to listen to endless bullshit about how wonderful the process was in replacing McCarthy with someone who will now lead them and the country to greatness.

You think Jeff Dunham's Achmed puppet screaming I'll kill you is Dunham avoiding American politics?
He has a dual puppet he uses in his shows now, one side is a maga and the other is a libtard, like siamese twins or whatever. Because everyone who is unbiased knows both sides the same.

Good plan, but I don't see it working with the self-important wackjob alleged conservatives like Gaetz, Greene, etc. They will only sign on to such a deal if it includes a sweetheart promise to them (like the one person can bring down the Speaker rule McCarthy agreed to). Given that the GOP house caucus isn't even planning to start discussions until 6:30 Monday I think it's a safe prediction that this slo-mo shit show will continue for days more.

What I see in that is moral cowardliness, the fear of tarnishing one's precious ego by taking a stand. It is a form of pseudo-moral elitism that says I am above all the idiots who point fingers at each other. The fact that idiots point fingers at each other only makes them idiots. They aren't the same kind of idiots nor are the idiots who can't morally discriminate less idiotic. The insanity lies in the passion of contempt the three sides have for each other. But it is all just the behavior of sleeping machines and nobody is to blame for it. This is just how it is.

I have no idea if it will succeed. It seems a possible out to me. The minority that ousted McCarthy I am pretty sure are feeling the flames of contempt and in seek of an exit ramp. We will see. At any rate I am pretty sure we will hear claims ad nauseam of how important this little detour from governance was for the Republican Party and and how much better off we all are to having endured endured it.

All true. And yet, still a better President than any Republican after Teddy Roosevelt.

You can't be a better President, politically, than the country and the Congress will allow you to be.
Now compare Clinton to FDR, JFK, and LBJ. Being less shitty than Hoover, Reagan, the two Bushes, Trump, etc is a low bar to clear and it's disgusting the Democrat party is built in Clinton's image right now. Even if you try to argue Clinton needed to be Reagan Lite in 92, which I don't concede (Dukakis lost in 88 on Willie Horton and that stupid tank picture, not on being too far from Reagan economically), that's not representative of Democrat voters in 2023.

Why would Jim need a safe word? As we've seen from this week, he is obviously politically Jimpotent.

Too bad Jeff Dunham avoids American politics He could replace Achmed with "Jimpotent the legislative terrorist" (courtesy of Jim Boehner) and make a fortune.

Down side, unlike Achmed, he'd really have to stretch to find anything funny about Jimpotent Jordan.
May I suggest you go watch unhinged in Hollywood. There are other's I am sure that disproves this statement, but that one shows that he does not avoid American politics.

Republicans are such fuckups yet it doesn’t stop people from voting for them

In their bubble from hell, they're not given a choice because over so many decades they've been conditioned to hate and be in fear of anyone who is not a Christian, who does not have the same shade of pale as they, who are LGBTQ, who is not in the same political party as they are, who aren't racist and those who are intelligent enough to call them out for what they actually stand for. IOW, the Republican party membership is systematically isolating themselves further and further from a growing demographic majority that is both liberal and pro-democracy.

The only thing they are focused on now is how to seize and run the nation from a minority party status. To that end, they will cheat, steal and gerrymander the hell out of the system. The proof is playing itself out in the courts where Trump's henchmen are cutting deals to save their own skins.

Stolen from twitter

Breaking! Hamas has rejected President Biden's offer to exchange 200 House Republicans for 200 Israeli hostages. Hamas said the offer was worthless.

Can we offer Russia 74 million Trumpanzees for Ukraine in return?

They should have Taylor Swift run, she’d get CSPAN viewership through the the roof. Kids would suddenly be interested in government.

Wouldn't shock me if Gaetz is/was using this to delay the ethics committee from proceeding on his case. I see some not insignificant rumblings to that effect.

Trust republicans at their word? Specifically these 221 republicans? I know they are very trustworthy, but I think this is a case where images speak better than I ever could:

Did you expect any different from covert Russians?

Lets be honest they care more about Russia than they do about Americans and their lives.

As much as we unite behind Biden the problem won't be resolved till someone comes to power who deports 74 million Russians from our shores.

I heard at least one Republican will not make the pledge.

On a side note it strikes me that the Speaker disaster was the product of a race to draw the most media attention to themselves by the worst of the assholes in the Republican congress by proving themselves capable of throw the biggest hand grenades into the democratic process and that the process backfired spectacularly. Now the whole Republican side of Congress are drawing equal attention as such total incompetent imbeciles that nobody can personally distinguish themselves. Perhaps some additional attention can go to those who start murdering their fellow members.

Maybe they can vote on who gets stabbed first.

I don't think that's true - I think it's that they hate their domestic political opposition (the Democrats) so much that they are willing to side with any group that's against the Democrats, even if Russia's larger goal is the destruction of the US.

Of course it would be nice if Republicans took a step back and asked themselves why the Russians think electing Republicans will accomplish their goal of destroying the US, but I'm not holding my breath.
