Haza! Just heard it on the radio, came here and found this thread. This will bother the big guy no end. I hope they have the evidence to put him on the spit. Maybe we'll even get something to really celebrate, a resignation!

Either way it won't lead to a civil war or anything near it because less than 62% of eligible voters voted in the main election in 2016 (under 60%), 2012 (under 60%) and 2008 (over 60%).

That it was just over 60% in 2008 may surprise some that it was that high. But to me it's not enough to get that many people riled up to revolt no matter what the results of the proceedings.

I don't like this. It's just going to enflame his base. Dems should just lay low until the elections. We could see Trump elected 2020.

Impeachment might change all the rules as mentioned above but remember, Trump has the US Supreme Court on his side. And the whitehouse refusal to release documents or allow administration officials to testify will all go to the high court to decide. And guess who the court will side with.
You have to admit, stacking the high court with Trumpies will pay off for Donald big time. It’s almost as if Donald Trump knew this day would come. Eventually....

I don't think he has Roberts on his side.

Too bad this isn't a "formal impeachment hearing" Pelosi is not putting it up for a vote on the floor. This is the same bullshit as we've been going through for 2+ years. As long as it's not put to a floor vote it's just tap dancing with the derps.

Court will just deligitimize itself. Good for Dems when they have the votes to pack it. Also, impeachment is a political process, they can impeach Trump for any reason that THEY consider a high crime or misdemeanor, regardless of what SCOTUS says.

I doubt even Trump's stacked court will undo the Nixon ruling.

It does not technically require a floor vote, only the actual vote to impeach or not does. The declaration of intent to investigate for the purpose of a possible impeachment is enough.

Being impeached, or the process of will most definitely harm Trump in the eyes of the voters. Trump knows this and regardless of the happy face he tries to put on, Trump is worried. His base is worried. Congressional republicans are worried. Fox News is worried. Presidential impeachment taints the president as a flawed president, and the bottom line is... people don’t like voting for a flawed president. The impeachment process will most definitely hurt this president by creating unknowns and putting distrust on the table. Trump doesn’t need that. Congressional Republicans don’t need that especially republicans up for re-election.
Don’t candy coat this. This is most definitely bad for Donald Trump. For Donald Trump and republicans this is nothing to cheer about and they know it.

It's not an "impeachment", it's just tap dancing. The Courts won't agree unless it's a formally taken vote. End of story.

I'm cheering. This is bye bye to moderate Biden who was the biggest threat to a Trump re-election
