Sure, don't get me wrong. I think it's entirely likely that they will, in fact, drag out the inquiry past the election. But this is a major step if they do take it, and it would make Congressional investigations *much* more difficult to stonewall. We'll see what comes out.

It's for the discovery and the documents that come with it.

He apparently hasn't a clue. In a formal impeachment inquiry, the rules completely change. Executive orders and privilege are severely limited or nonexistent when it comes to these investigations. Nixon tried that nonsense and a good laugh was had all around.

If officials decide they are above the precedents set then don't worry about the House because even with its current makeup the SCOTUS will have their heads on a pike. If Mitch doesn't want the SCOTUS tearing the Reps apart as well as Trump he'll STFU.

Trump might try to pardon witnesses and I would bet that the SCOTUS would never see that being allowed under the original intentions of the Founders. Likely those old boys would have had a rope handy some time ago in this fiasco.

I actually think the transcript by itself might be inconclusive, which is why team Trump is promising to release it.

But, I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump uses Pelosi’s impeachment press conference as an excuse to renege on releasing the transcript. “Because the horrible Democrats are hell bent on taking me down, despite our cooperation, I have no choice but to exercise privilege and refuse to give in!”

I'm very confident he will release A transcript but I sincerely doubt he will release the entire transcript and there will likely not be any way for us to know it until we get testimony from the IG/whistleblower.

Formal inquiry. Inquiry. Nothing will happen lol. It’ll be just like Mueller. The plan of the Dems is to keep him under constant pressure until Election Day, not to actually remove him from office. Y’all dont get your hopes up on anything beyond more than theatrics

I'm not aware of a single person who thinks his removal from office is likely from this so who are you referring to anyway? Haha.

Perhaps not likely but he's going to have his ass get a proctoscope without lube. Just announced that 6 committees will be under the umbrella of the impeachment inquiry. I wonder if Barr wants to be the next John Mitchell?

Which is why we need all this in context with the whistleblowers testimony.

It will also be fun to see them claim that Democrats are moving the goalposts when they continue to demand the whistleblower's report despite that being exactly what they've demanded from the beginning.

I hope his taxes fall under the scope of the inquiry... which I suspect they will.
But, but, he's under an IRS audit, don't you see?, if it wasn't for that by golly Donnie would have released his taxes a long time ago!.

I get the feeling even our shit-stain excuse for a senate now see's cheeto heading for a hard fall and might be ready to abandon ship on a moments notice to claim they were always on the "right" track. They also know even Barr will not be able to counter an in person interview from a Congressional investigation. Since the whistle-blower was part of Trumps own administration claiming it a 'Dem plot" is going to look laughable, not that cheeto won't continue to try.l

Maybe they want to get on-board with this and were waiting for a legitimate
reason to burn the orange orangutan.

I know I am probably reading too much into it, but I am still hopeful that there are some decent repubs
in the senate. I know they want to get reelected but really, who wants to live this shitshow we're having for 5 more years?

I mean the cheeto can't troll every repub that gets on board with this can he? What's he going to do
call all of them traitors to the party?

It is done.

But no select committee. The 6 committees currently investigating Trump will continue their separate investigations, now under the “umbrella” of a formal inquiry. Still seems like she is taking a cautious, measured approach to opening an inquiry.

No announcement of a formal House vote to open the inquiry, but there will be a resolution to condemn the President’s actions wrt Ukraine.

This may be the first time most Republicans have seen Pelosi on TV. Ok a bit of an exaggeration but probably true for quite a few of them.

The lack of a select committee isn't a problem for me. We'll have more manpower and resources and the legal advantages of being under the umbrella. At this time the courts know what their obligation is and it's to prevent obstruction by the Administration. John Mitchell and others learned what that meant.

Pelosi calling out Waters speaks to his taxes being in the crosshairs of one of these committees, and I am glad for that.

Really have to now hope that enough of the "deep state"* is left to stop him from nuking us all.

*and believe that it exists at all...
