What if someone bought the 700M 2 weeks ago with a 500 dollar coupon and a 200 dollar rebate? Can they call and have the 500 replaced with the 750 coupon?

did you mail in the rebate already ?
If not just return it and order a new one.

at 50 bucks is it really worth the hassle ?
You'll be responisble for the shipping back fee.

According to TechDealCity.com

Due to the overwhelming response to our offer, we have triggered supply constraints on some of our Inspiron models. We are currently changing our site to redirect demand to other models. However, we are concerned that our current sales rate will lead to extended lead times, and a negative customer experience for our shared customers. To address these growing concerns, as of 3:00pm CST this afternoon, this promotion will no longer be available for Inspiron 700m and Inspiron 8600 systems. The offer remains available on other Dell Inspiron models.

Can anyone confirm Dell took the 8600 and 700m out of this offer?

If the 700m and 8600 are off limits now, what model is most similar to the 8600? I was looking at the 8600 configured slightly over $1500 before Dell pulled it away. Would the 5160 be the closest to the 8600 (except for lacking the wide screen)?

I wouldn't mind waiting over a month for the 8600 but guess Dell won't allow it. :p

Yes, I can confirm it. Emailed to us directly from Dell:

One question.. For an XGA resolution screen, will 32 MB video ram be enough or is it worth upgrading to 64 MB? Will it work any beter for games etc? I know 32 will cover this resolution but will 64 add anything to 3d video performance?

Officially dead for 5160 and 600m.

Now just XPS and 1150.

For the 1150, another way to go is (as mentioned above), the basic laptop plus a Dell 1901FP 19" LCD monitor, for $798.

Yes I resisted the urge! Now I must build up my will power...

Had a 9100 (this morning), an 8600, and a 700M in separate carts ready to go...

Twas a good deal while it lasted. I wonder if ebay is flooded with these...

MAKE $40 almost instantly. (maybe even more with sales tax)

Looking for a 9100.

Anyone want to transfer the purchase to me and MAKE $40?
You can still order another model. I can also save you sales tax if you are interested. (or I purchased the 5160 and could do a swap - YOU STILL make the $40 + any difference in the purchase price)

email me: anandtechATphillywoodDOTcom (obvioiusly change the capitalized letters to their respective symbols

I'm guessing they won't charge my cc until it's shipped. Anybody else got a date on theirs?

the Confirmation email is the amount they will charge you, not the Acknowledgement email. I checked my credit card with 0 ballance and its showing the Confirmation amount as being held.

The 8600 is not shipping with defective, unwatchable LCD screens. There are four vendors making Dell's screens: Sharp, Samsung, Toshiba, Hitachi. You can't specify which vendor's LCD will be on your 8600, but all four are high quality. The Samsung and Sharp screens are simply noticeably better than the Hitachi. Dell just started using Toshiba LCDs, and no dissatisfaction has been reported. Some people are perfectly happy with their Hitachi screens, while others, myself included, prefer to have the very best screen possible.
