BTW, why upgrade to the 60GB from Dell? You could buy a Hitachi 7200RPM 60GB drive elsewhere, sell the base 30GB and upgrade for less.
I believe upgrading a hard drive involves opening the case (it's not a user-serviceable bay) and therefore voiding the 4 year support. Yes I do intend on keeping the laptop for that long.
With the rebate the 4 year support is actually cheaper than the 3 year support with the same features.
upgrading the hd on the laptop will NOT void your warranty. They even give instructions on how to upgrade the hard drive in your manual. At least they did on the Dell 600m that I bought last year. Not sure about the other laptops, but all it takes is one screw to take out the caddy and then unscrew the hd from the caddy, put in the new hd and screw everything back in and your done.
