Hot dogs and diet used in the same sentence is a prime example of all that is wrong with this country.

There is nothing wrong with a hotdog once in a while. All things in moderation.

Hell, have you seen the fatty meats northern Europeans eat (especially the Germans)? And of the industrialized nations, they have the lowest obesity rate.

Its not the meats its the HFCS.

I've already hijacked this thread...but that's the problem. Most people on the "Atkins" diet haven't figured out moderation. That's why they are in their predicament in the first place.

Hebrew National, Sinai Kosher, Best's Kosher, or Vienna Beef. These are all good quality hotdogs.

I think the ones at Costco are Sinai or Hebrew. They are a little more expensive, but definitely worth it. Much better BBQ'd than boiled also.

the ones that are $1 a package

is that even beef?...if so how come it doesn't taste like it?

No, those are mostly rat parts. I've heard that rat tastes like beef though, at least if you've never had decent beef.

First, I don't know if I believe the hysteria over HFCS. I've cut it from my diet, and reintroduced it and saw NO change in my weight or body fat. Secondly, the ones I listed have simple corn syrup.

Probably because you consume it in moderation. 😉

Hot & Spicy are De-Li-cious!

Oh wow, I haven't seen those before. Sounds good! What are they spiced with?

I don't know...but they have quickly become the only hot dog I will eat outside of a stadium.

Oh, so you don't have a package of them? I was hoping it would say in the ingrediants. I guess I will have to look for them the next time I go grocery shopping.

Sh!t, Ball Park has Hot 'n Spicy franks too! http://www.ballparkfranks.com/products/default.aspx?p=1&q=3

Yes, Costco is the only place i've seen Sinai, but they are damn good (also you can get a "demo" one at the costco food lounge, these are the same ones they sell in bulk in the store).

Well, the main source for me was my breads. I don't drink soda. Pretty much only water.

At any rate, a hot dog once in a while isn't going to make any normal person fat. All or nothing mentality is what leads to fad dieting... and I firmly believe fad dieting is contributing to the obesity epidemic.

Then why the Atkins diet? You'll do your body much better sticking to whole grains, high fiber, and lean proteins.

not atkins diet...just lower carb diet...remember moderation is key...

Before (when I drank pop, and ate alot of junk food) I would eat like 500 carbs a day...now I try to stay around like 50 carbs...just to eat healty...

It's not really so much about how many carbs, as it is about what type of carbs.

Avoiding soda, and limiting simple and starchy carbs is a good way to go. Whole grains and fiber works. But ease yourself into it. High fiber in someone not used to it can mean bloating and gas.
