Before (when I drank pop, and ate alot of junk food) I would eat like 500 carbs a day...now I try to stay around like 50 carbs...just to eat healty...

It's not really so much about how many carbs, as it is about what type of carbs.

Avoiding soda, and limiting simple and starchy carbs is a good way to go. Whole grains and fiber works. But ease yourself into it. High fiber in someone not used to it can mean bloating and gas.

Definitely. And when you go higher fiber, you have to make sure you get in A LOT more water than you are used to. It's actually quite easy to get constipated from high fiber diets if you aren't properly hydrated.

I never got constipated from fiber. Quite the opposite, actually. LOL

Actually, it is listed on most foods that contain it.

Look here and click on any bread.

http://www.earthgrainsbread.com/

BTW, I love the 100% whole wheat version of this bread. Very tasty and reasonably soft.

Most foods have fiber on the labels. Good whole grain breads will have 3-4 grams per slice. I buy an english muffin that has 8 grams per muffin. Oatmeal typically has 4 grams per serving. Whole wheat tortillas will have 2-5 grams per serving. Beans have several grams per serving. Some veggies like broccoli also are fairly high in it as well. Raspberries, blackberries and blueberries are also great sources (3-5 grams a serving).

For my lunches at work I really like the south beach meals from Kraft. They typically have very lean meat cuts with a good helping of veggies. Most of them are under 300 calories, have anywhere from 5-15 grams of fiber per meal, and anywhere from 15-25 grams of protien per serving. And as a bonus they taste great for a microwave dinner.

That was what my wife and I always used to buy until we moved to Peoria. Hyvee stocks it but there aren't any in Peoria. I haven't found another distributer here. Those had 9 grams of fiber in two slices. Nothing else comes close for the taste. Sad that I can't buy it locally :(

Did he mean "dehydrated" instead of "constipated"?

I get it at the overpriced Jewel-Osco store here. I've also seen it at Meijers.

Though both only carry the 100% Whole Wheat (not the extra fiber version) and Berry Wheat.

I'm on a low-carb diet, and hot dogs are a good solution for me.

Beef, chicken, turkey, pork, kat, mouse, lizard, goose, rabbit, snake, deer, etc...?
if you must do the hotdiog thing, eat some bratwurst instead.

Yes, fiber IS carbs. There are good carbs and bad carbs.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Vienna Beef. They ARE the Chicago Dog.

No. Fiber draws A LOT of water into your bowels which is why it helps prevent constipation (provides "mush"). But on the flipside, if you are consuming more fiber than fluid, it just builds up solidifies in there...no mush = no push.

Not to mention frequent and explosive trips to the mens room. ;)

It's really kind of a myth, and like Amused said, only an issue if you suddenly add it to your diet. In all actuallity, you have *less* issues once you go high fiber because your body is used to it. If I have a big bowl of beans or a high fiber muffin or something it's no big deal to me since I'm used to taking in 30 grams a day.

Much unlike your average person on their white bread (read: no fiber) and high fat diets that get maybe 1/3 of that on a day....and end up doubling their intake in a given day. That's when you run into problems.
