Don't sit there and wallow in self pity, go walk around, meet another girl. You aren't tied down. Remember one thing, there are alot of girls out there. You can crash and burn quite a bit before you find a good one that returns your intrest. That one is worth all the trouble though.

Now serious here, I reckon you should just go up and ask her out. If she says no then you'll feel a bit like a dickhead, but you'll be get confidence from the experience. On the other hand, if she says yes, hey boys! You'll feel like the luckiest guy on the planet and that will far surpass the feeling of rejection. Just do it. It's worth it. Think long term.
 
Use your geekish skills to find an excuse to get to talk to her, walk over to her machine and ask politely if you could check something, say on the floppy you brought with you, that wouldn't work on your own machine. Do something seemingly difficult to impress her and then lead the conversation in to something else i.e. her

theres got to be some way to be slick and pick up on chicks at non-pick up type places like restaurants when shes at another table or in the lab or something. maybe if we all use our knowledge for something other than computers we could figure it out

OK thats it. There is this girl in my class whom I am gonna talk to and ask her to join my study group or something. If she says no, well than hell with her! I wanted to do this today and planned all through class what to say, but sadly I did not have the guts. But on Friday I will do it, so help me GOD. THis is my last chance, and I will not miss it.
