Its a 10$ additional charge Flythunderbird and I have not heard that they will be getting rid of said charge at this time or in the near future. Since the real reason its charged is you get Basic cable service and there is no way we can tap out the line when we install hsd. If they find a way to cost effectivly tap out basic with a analog trap then they could get away with not charging the additional fee. I have mentioned this time and time again its honestly would not be that hard to do [traps are like 4$ for us in bulk.] But methinks they enjoy the extra income.

OK, thanks. CSR told me it was an extra $20/month if I didn't subscribe to TV service. I agree; they like the additional money. :frown:
 
That is sooooo not true in no charter cable system is it a 256 upload speed unless, you have a buisness account. Every residential account always has been a max of 128........Either you are confused or are just trying to find a reason to gripe.......Look on your starter package or any other material sent to you from charter nowhere does it state 1.5X256kps? I think you got spoiled by a unprovisioned charter account and where getting more than you where supposed to.

No, actually it is posibble. The Charter in my area offered three speeds up until now, and had been for quite a while. 1.5mbps/256kbps, 768kbps/128kbps, 256kbps/128kbps. The lowest was somewhere around $35/mo and the steps up were like $45 and $55, respectively.

Mabye I should retype my statement....Unless you are in a test market system that is trying out new package speeds you can not get 256 res speeds 😛 BTW only 4 Cities\Cable Nodes\Systems are test marketing this 256kps rate from the info I have been given.
 
Hmmm, I might have been stealth upgraded here in Fort Worth, Tx (didn't get a letter). I'll have to check at broadbandreports.com later today when I get home to verify.
 
whoo hoo, saw this thread last night and checked my speed. 2M. Wow! I'm in SoCal, Covina area and I pay for the lowest tier. What a great deal!
 
Ok, this is the latest I have for ya. In Socal, all customers are going to 2.0/128 and you can call and downgrade to the bronze(256/128) and still get the new speeds. the packages are going to be:

384/128 for 29.99+4.95 modem

2.0/128 for 39.99 without modem

2.0/128+ tv service for 42.95(includes modem lease)

all 2.0/128 are going to stay provisioned this way till technically and physically possible to raise the upload to 256.

you do not have to have tv service to recieve theses rates. you can call in and have the cable acces fee removed aswell.

this is all I have for now, I can also not guarentee this, but it is what I have read at work. Enjoy!

thanks! going to call in and try to lower my bill by almost $20 ($10 from 768/128 to 256/128) and the cable accessing fee which is almost another $10.

Well, I live in the Dallas area and I am getting the new speed. Nice upgrade but not that important since I was generally getting around 900-1000 kbps anyway with the Silver package. Now my upload is another story. Still getting 76 kbps uploads and that is a real problem for me. I have to scan docs and send them via email frequently and this is lousy. No other alternative other than going to a business account which I can't justify since I send only a couple of things weekly...but I just send them and watch it crawl away.
 
If you were a gold customer (in the Dallas area) prior to 2001, the package was 1.5/384. They changed the upload speed to 128 a year or so ago. Since I was a customer prior to that, I was "grandfathered" in at 384.

Not anymore. As soon as something else comes along with faster upload speed, I'm gone.

I thought 1.5Mbps was horrible, I can't imagine being at 768. Lucky for those of you who are getting 2.0 now, Charter only offers 1.5 in my area. I used to have Cox cable which gave me a 3.0/256 for 40 a month. That was sweet. Now I'm stuck with Charter, who is the single worst cable company on the face of the planet (at least where I live).
 
time warner just upgraded my roadrunner from 2mbps to 3mbps and like a year ago they upgraded upload from 256 to 384, no multiple speed packages to buy from raodrunner just one price, one package, roadrunner is the best, never goes down either. this is in san diego by the way

I agree, I had RR in the NE US area, or maybe it was MediaOne then, then bought out by FroadRunner. Anyways, it was always fast, no slowdowns, and no outages that I can remember. The plan was 1.5/300 for around $46/mo I think.

Now that I've moved, I'm on Verizon DSL, and am not even getting the full speed. Plan is 1.5/128 for $35/mo, actual speed is closer to 1.1-1.2Mbit/s down.

My speed was changed last week but I did not get the letter today.

 
Just an FYI-

I emailed Charter the other day complaining about the upload speed, and inquiring about what would happen if I changed my "grandfathered" 384 gold package to the cheaper bronze package to get the $29.99 price for the same speed I'm currently paying $60+ for.

I was told in no uncertain terms that if I changed my package to get the cheaper price, that I would LOSE my grandfathered status. The only way to have a glimmer of hope of getting back my 384 upload speed is to CONTINUE PAYING the $60 a month (they're supposedly working on a new script for the grandfathered customers).

So any grandfathered gold customers that have changed their plans to get the cheaper rate...sounds like you got hosed!

*sigh* somewhere the optimum online people with their 10Mbps down and 1Mbps up are mocking all of us right now. Heh...back home I have road runner which is 3Mbps down and 384Kbps up...not bad =) Or maybe it's really 2.5Mbps but they said it was 3 when I signed up heh.

Luckily I'm at school now...where they have capped our uploads to something around 80kbps...which is to say, unbelievably lame.

On the upshot my downloads are AMAZING...over 1MB/s from fast websites(sometimes the fast ones aren't the ones you'd think were fast). And best of all, intralan(it's a nicely big campus too) transfers are...very enjoyable =)

Except to my roommate whose NIC seems to have serious problems...he uploads at 50KB/s to everybody...lol Kind of lame since we can all upload at about 7MB/s to each other =) damn overhead
