Are these rebates only good through a Amazon purchase?? This is a hot price but the 5000 units have had big problems, wish I could get this deal at a local B&M so i could take it back if i needed to.

Anyone have any experience with this? Mustanggt said that they have had problems, was just wondering if anyone had any hands-on with this.

BTW, Mustanggt, take a look at the rebate forms. It is actually two $50 rebates, which cools it off a tiny bit, but it looks like they are from Sonic blue, and just says "must purchase from a participating retailer", so I would guess you are good to buy wherever.

This looks like a pretty hot deal to begin with but I would like to heat it up a notch. I have $100 MSN and if I could get this for $239-100 MIR-100 MSN it would make my day.

The problem is I just can't figure out how to put it all together. If any of you more experienced deal meisters can figure it out I would be very thankful.

I also have an American Express with BVG if that is needed to make it work.

Thanks,
Chris

Pretty much all the big problems have been solved via the most recent software updates. There will be a big update sometime soon that will add lots of features. I got mine for $149 on the old BB deal and love it. It's changed how I watch tv. You can check out the avsforums for more info.

There's either a $10/month service fee or $250 lifetime activation.

Yes this model does have a monthly fee of $9.95 or a one time fee of $250. The older Replay models (2K & 3K?) the the Panasonic Showstopper versions of them had no fee. I own one of the Panasonics that I got from a deal posted on here a couple of years ago and it has changed the way my family watches TV.

It has the highest wife acceptance rating of any of the computer/electronics gear I have bought.

yep, I got my Panasonic Showstopper(replaytv) from target's clearance for $70 after $100 rebate couple of years ago and recently sold it for over $400 on ebay(it includes lifetime service) which paid for my my rtv5040+lifetime($150 AR +$250 lifetime).

Now that new DVArchive is out that supports 5000 models, you can backup your shows to your pc and then stream directly off your pc. No need to upgrade rtv hard drive and void the warranty....

Well circuitcity.com has the item for $299.99 and also the 2 $50 rebates. You can buy there and use AmX BVG to get price down to Amazon price. However there are 2 potential problems, 1 is that you will be charged tax by circuitcity.com, the 2nd is that the charge on the Amx card will not be for the $299 price since MSN will be counted, so your charge will be $100 less. Not sure if AmX will BVG if the entire price of the original purchase was not charged on the card.

However if you just want to purchase locally in case of problems this will get you a good deal after BVG.

I will never go back to watching tv "live" again. I have this same unit. Buy it and you will LOVE it! My only problem is that my wife keeps hogging all the hard drive space. Funny thing is that she is the one that said, "Why do we need one of those things?" I have not had one problem with mine. I have it hooked up to my Road Runner service.

Even hotter if you apply for the amazon credit card. They give you an instant $30
if you qualify. So you can get it for $99 after 10off/75 and 30 gift certificate.
If you qualify it automatically applies to $30 when you use the amazon credit card.

oh the possibilities.... just read the DVArchive web page DVArchive
Been perfectly happy with my upgraded 80HR PV-2000 that I got for $70 two years ago, but now you can have unlimited virtual storage on your computer hard drive with out modifiying the original unit.

I think I'll cash in my old showstopper and trade up to the RTV5040 ethernet model with a lifetime subcription. Heck I would'nt even be tying up my phone line at 3am anymore for the updates :)

the two models are the 4504 & the 5040, which i'll refer to as the 4500 series & the 5000 series

the 5000's are the newer models which were just released before christmas of last year...each series has its own strengths & weaknesses

5000's:
-better picture quality
-a bit sluggish
-quality assurance & build quality (in my opinion) not as good as the 4500's
-USB port

4500's:
-lesser picture quality (not bad, just not as good as the 5000's)
-faster, more responsive
-better quality assurance & build quality
-no USB port

for more info you should check out the AVS ReplayTV forum: linky

Wondering if anyone has had any experience with this through a dish. I have Dish Network, and I know the problem with some PVRs is that on dish you can't record one channel while watching another.

Was just wondering if anyone had any hands-on with one through a dish.

Thanks

I got one of these around Christmas , and just recently got BOTH of the $50 rebates (about 45 days turn-around on the rebates)

I picked this over the Tivo simply because the replayTV unit can access its channel listings via your broadband connection (easy to set-up, just plug the unit into your router), as opposed to the Tvio which needs a phone line to dial-in and get the programming info.

You can also program YOUR ReplayTV over the internet. Say you are traveling and forgot to record something, just log-on and tell your unit to record a certain show for you.

You can not watch one channel and record another channel when you use only one Dish Network receiver; you can do so, if you have two receiver. Dish Network's PVR costs about $280, no monthly program fee, you do the math.
