They hiring storm troopers or what?

The irony is that they subdued the actual maniac, but killed the hostage. Amazing work fellas.

Do the cops at least lose their jobs? Is there any legal basis for them to be prosecuted for being this terrible?

They will lose their jobs, but most departments do not release any info whatsoever on previous officers. Only hire date and leave date. Most of them won't even say if the officer was terminated or left on their own free will. ...........That is, unless the officer rolled on his fellow gang members. They're quick to talk about something like that. Teaches them not to cross that thin blue line.

So rest easy knowing this officer can leave to come work in your city, to arrest your wife/daughter for talking on the phone while driving. Best she not mouth off or she'll get a swift kick to the head.

Winkler fit the general description of the suspect — a white man in a black shirt

The hostage should have known the police would shoot anyone matching an incredibly vague description and should have stopped to strip naked before escaping. Hell - didn't he learn anything from the Blue Truck incident?

So just shoot them both?

Given the LAPD's history of discrimination they felt it was far better to treat everyone equally

LAPD is the biggest joke in america, I would literally never live there for fear of getting killed by my own police force. God forbid my vehicle is the same color as a killer on the run, I might get shot on sight.

Or a different color. Or not a truck.

Dispatch: We have a murder suspect, white male, driving a green late model Ford Explorer.
Cop: There's an Asian kid on a bicycle! Shoot him!

Hahaha. 😀 That's like those poor women who got their car all shot up when the police were looking for Dormer (or whatever his name was).

and what in that situation says shoot them both? when they are unarmed?

lol
So stop the second one. The first is obviously not a threat, and the second could very easily be the hostage taker. Ideally they would tase him or do something else non lethal, but we hardly live in an ideal place.

gj reading the thread.

It's also worth noting that they probably didn't have enough time to freeze and ponder even if they wanted to. By the time they've done that the guy could already be on one of them and eating their face.

In my city a guy called the cops about a possible armed intruder, when the cops arrived on scene the home owner was skulking around with his gun at the ready, guess who got shot?

Kill 'em All, Let the Coroner Sort 'em Out.

Dead men don't contradict official reports

The only good witness is... No.... Wait...
