the only load time that kind of drags is after the menu screen when you first start the game, which is understandable. after that the game loads very quickly, like after a death as previously mentioned. i don't have a SSHD in my PS4 either...
The load times for fast travel seem similar ... which also makes sense since there are probably a whole new slew of graphics and geometry that need to be loaded into memory. Intiial startup is probably slower due to common resources throughout the world.

I like that there isn't any loading in the world if you run from place to place. Even entering cities, cauldrons and the like. Other games could learn something from that. Granted the cities aren't as vast as say Witcher 3 Novigrad.
I've encountered one elevator that takes a while to ride up. I have a feeling that they had to put it into place to deal with load issues between the two areas. Kinda sucks. I've only encountered one elevator (granted there are two directly next to eachother)

if you take the long way around that elevator there is no loading

The technology they use makes it a slow ride, there's no background loading there. You can run around the area and enter the other way without any loading whatsoever too as Anubis mentioned.

To be frank, they need to patch the elevator out of the game then. Make a stairway next to it or anything. Atleast let us repell down.

It fits the architecture, the game's lore, and isn't that bad at all. You can always fast travel between campfires and run too which is actually longer than taking the elevator sometimes.

yea TBH i rode the elevator a grand total of once to get from A to B the first time, then it was just fast travel

Just got my PS4 pro last weekend along with this game. I've played until midnightish almost every day this week so far. Really stunning and fun game so far. It feels like it took a lot of gameplay cues from Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow or Mordor, and the Witcher 3 to me. There are some similar mechanics present in this game from all those other games at least. It really is a staggeringly beautiful game though, moreso than any of those by a long shot.

There is also a few Fallout style moments. Mostly in the old world ruins.

speaking of which... has anyone finished the "ancient armory" side quest?? i don't even remember what I had to get for that one...

game had me frustrated again when I quit last night. after a brief and mostly easy encounter with some humans, two goddam ravagers show up and it's like I might as well be throwing sand at them. ughhhhh why??

Shadow hunter bow with two purple damage circuits should help you out if you use hard point arrows. I think if you made it to meridian then try to buy that.

I set down a bunch of shock and blast traps in record time and they barely did anything... i'm thinking all of my weapons except the sharpshot bow need to go.

Haha well you need the ancient power cells for the locks. Two to unlock the door and 3 more to unlock the clamps on the armor.

I use two tear upgrades and one damage upgrade because when you can rip armor off by shooting two or three arrows(shoot them at once with a skill upgrade)to expose a weak point and focus there, fights end in a flash. Or just rip off a heavy weapon and blast the machine with it.

i did get to meridian but i didn't really buy much... might load an earlier save and check to see what I can grab before heading north

Invest in a golden travel pack. It will be a life saver later. That way you don't have to keep hunting boars and stuff to craft regular travel packs. You also want the shadow hunter bow and possibly the carja war or sharpshot now too.

Note: merchants are all the same. They do not vary by town. When you get to a specific point in the story the inventory updates and they will all sell the new stuff for you in the higher level region.

Get the shadow bows, you won't regret it.

If you don't have it, get the tinker skill too. Holy crap is it a relief to not have to agonize over which modifications you're going to put where. I wasn't too happy at first about the skill that lets you pick up traps and tripwires that you need to get first, but I've found myself using it a ton too, so it turns out that going for tinker has some great side benefits as well.

Edit: Also, I'm starting to get a feel for certain things in the game that were once a mystery to me. For instance, early on I wondered why there were so many slots for weapons when they weren't dropped as items or found anywhere except for from vendors. Now that I realize that ammo types and modifications are basically the only things that really affect performance, I know why. Ultimately I'm going to need a separate weapon for almost every ammo type with modifications tailored to that specific ammo type, i.e. Two Hunter bows, one with fire mods and one with damage mods, possibly another with tear mods, Two sharpshot bows, one with damage, and one with tear mods, and so on. Furthermore, I'm going to need several sets of armor with different mods in each as well, though I haven't examined those as closely as weapons yet.

the hunter bow with 3x 40%+ handling mods makes it nearly full auto

handling increases reload time

the ropecaster is best with 3x handling as well as the hunter bow (but damage also works)
Damage mods in the blast sling
Ice and Shock in the other sling - i found fire to be weakest
have separate Ice and Shock in the war bow
Damage in sharpshot bow

As I play through the story I can't believe how stupid the tribal leaders and especially the Nora Matriarchs are in regard to the world. I don't expect them to understand the technology of the past but to treat it as if it is some type of god is pretty lame. They don't see that people built it? It's not mother earth or the sun god etc lol

Yea I find that pretty odd. Sometimes while I'm playing I'm like what is going on here are we in the past, are we in the future? How come we still have to use bow and arrow? It's like they filled the world with entity fearing people that were just dropped into the world fairly recently.

No I have the answers about everything but I am just dumbfounded that so many people act like it's some sort of divine being behind the locked doors in the ruins etc. the worst though is how naive they made the Nora. I know it's by design but even after all that happens they still say dumb shit like "the all mother spoke to you, what did she say?" I was just awestruck at how stupid they are. It's so obvious it's all man made
