Homosexuality, Wrong or Right? No flaming!

Hmm... something I have been thinking about lately. I found out two of my old friends are gay now and are living together. It doesn't really bother me. Jerboy did bother me however. Why do we have to answer in terms of right or wrong? That is not how I want to answer. It is a lifestyle that I personally don't find attractive nor do I wish to partake in. It is NOT right to me, but then again I don't see it as wrong either. Do I see it in a negative light? Yeah a little. Why? I dunno I just do. I will say that the only gay person that I have never liked was Jerboy. I actually called my old friend up before I left for Texas a week ago and asked him how things were. Him being gay hasn't changed things in our relationship. I don't like his lifestyle, but maybe he doesn't like mine either.

I am not scared of gays nor do I dislike them. Their lifestyle is something I see as negative much like those that see other BS as negative. I am sure some people don't agree with me and that is fine. I hope people still respect me even though in the world of today I wouldn't be suprised to see people PM me with negative comments.

Homosexuality is wrong. It is a Sin by the LORD's measure. Leviticus 18:22 says "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. " and 20:13a says "If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination" Sin is wrong "The wages is sin is death" (Romans 6:23), and it seperates Man from His Creator. If it's wrong in the LORD's eyes, then it is not natural. Temptation is the enticment to sin, and I Corinthians 10:13 says that "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." If one has "natural homosexual feelings", then it is a deception of the Devil, and wrong, and can be overcome by the blood of Christ, and daily ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Homosexuality is a disease, just like Aids, cancer, or Schizofrenia (sp?). Its something that you are born with, but it doesn't make it right. The problem is that the gay rights movements force it to be seen as ok, politically speaking. We don't leave people with Schoizofrenia be. We cure them, or attempt to. We don't have Schizo movements. Basically its a disease and needs treating. I could go into more detail but my head hurts and you guys know what I mean




Just for the record, Im bringing this up because there is a gay kid in my debate class. This kid is the most whiny kid I have ever met. He claims he is a minority etc... We were debating today, affirmative action. And he started getting all personal saying how he couldn't walk down the street holding his boyfriends hand. And how everything was bad and that affirmative action was there for him as well, somehow. I don't know how? He was the only one in the class for affirmative action, it was great I thought he was going to cry

Technically, it is a disease because a disease is defined as:

"a condition of the living animal or plant body or of one of its parts that impairs normal functioning " (M.W. online)

So homosexuals do have a condition where 'normal' functioning is impaired. Normal functioning is what the standard is, and the standard is heterosexuality.

However, I dont' think this can be lumped with other illnesses that are "curable/uncurable." I think this is something we are born with, such as some of us have blonde hair, while others have brown hair. Its just a trait of ours. There is probably a technical reason for all sorts of attributes of humans, such as height, complexion, muscle build, frame, intellect, creativity, and yes, sexual preference. If we are shorter than the norm, or taller than the norm for example, there was probably some condition that existed when we were being created that causes this. So, if one was to be technical about it, one could say someone who is 5 feet tall has a disease, as is someone who is 7 feet tall. One could also then say someone who belongs to an ethnic group that usually has blond hair is born with darker hair they had some disease as well. This, of course, is unpractical, but is going strictly by definitions.

This being said, I don't believe for one minute that homosexuality can be truly "cured." The person may think they have "cured" it (denial), or may be pressured into saying that they have, but i really doubt it. There is a lot of grey area in this as well. For example, is a girl, who is wild one night at a college party, and makes out with another girl, a lesbian just for that? I have plenty of friends that are girls that have been attracted to other females. They make comments like, if i was a guy... Well, does that make them lesbian? I don't think so. Its just that its OK for a girl to say that in this society, but not for a guy. If a person is confused (seems like we have a lot of confused ppl esp. young people), or 'going thru a phase,' i dont count them as being homosexual. (For example, i don't think all homosexual prison sex is comitted by people who are homosexuals in mind). To me, a true homosexual is someone that has always been attracted to someone of the same sex, at 12, at 18, and at 50, not just for a few weeks or years even. These people can't be "cured" IMO, nor should they be, let them do what they want as long as it doesn't bother others.

So is it wrong when a heterosexual couple has sex JUST for fun? You seem to be implying that what makes homosexual activity wrong is that it wont' result in the production of life. If thats the case, how can sex between a heterosexual couple that uses a condom and/or pill to prevent reproduction be right, in your eyes?

What in the world do you people mean when you say "homosexuality". Do you realize what a sheer hodgepodge of factors go into the determining of sexuality and sexual drive in early pubescent experiences of sex, let alone the multivariate factors contributing to gender attraction, peer acceptance, attachment, emotional response, control, and social conditioning in the pre-pubescent child (gender segregation due to prenatal hormonal priming is a real phenomenon having physical and social implications for primates, especially humans).

When someone says "homosexuality", is the act of homosexual sex, sex triggers, attraction, gender socializations, evokation of erotic response, scripts and patterns of relationship developed early in life, or some other thing that is being referenced?

So much ambiguity. Then the question of "right" and "wrong" enter the picture. Right for whom? Wrong from the position of maladaptation? In regards to a Judeo-Christian ethical perspective? If we invoke ethics, what is our system and how do we define an absolute grounding (can that ever be objective?) for a common valuation for the rightness or wrongness of homosexuality (whatever that is).


I'm confused. What exactly are we trying to discover?

I subscribe to the school of though that basically says:
We are all bisexual. We just 'swing' varying degrees, one way or the other (or indeed both.)

I think it's incredibly patronising to label it a disease and say that we ought to cure it. Until we can understand it (which we're not even close to doing) then proclamations like that are meaningless.

Homosexuality is neither right nor wrong. It just is. "Right" or "wrong" implies moral value; where no moral value is relevant, then you don't ask that question. When a lioness kills an antelope, there is no right or wrong.

I don't think it's "wrong" because personally I don't consider something wrong unless it's hurting someone else or done only for selfish gain or whatever.

For the people who say that homosexuality is a desire, and to act on it is "wrong". I don't know, that's just a weird way of looking at it for me. You compare it to lying and stealing, something that all humans have a desire to do at some point in their lifetime....not everybody has "homosexual" desires. I don't even know how some people can compare the two. I also think it's sad that you think that all of these people who have these desires should deny them. You are basically saying they must go through life denied of love because SOME people seem to think it's wrong even though it does NO harm to themselves or anyone around them. That just plain sucks.

If you are truly gay (or believe yourself to be gay, depending on how you look at it) that means you are attracted to people of the same sex, and if you deny yourself these feelings you are lying to yourself or risk living your life totally and utterly alone. It's easy to judge when you are one that doesn't face these types of 'desires' but I believe everyone should have a chance to be happy in life, and usually happiness in life is shared with a certain special someone. I could never ask someone to deny something like that with no real reason just because when i see it it makes me feel uncomfortable.

i sort of see it as people who eat frog legs or let's say bugs. when you see people do it, it really grosses you out and you can't imagine doing it. but some people consider it a delicacy. it just depends on how you were brought up and what you have witnessed/experienced in your life. sure when you see two guys kissing it's weird and makes you feel like it's wrong, just like when i see people eating roaches is wrong but there are people who do it! and it's not anymore wrong than us eating cows. what's the difference? the fact that in the bible it doesn't say you aren't allowed to eat roaches? not trying to flame but if the end all of your reasoning is the bible, then we will have to throw all logic out the window.

No I'm not. I'm saying that they have to go through life without oral and/or anal penetration and without mutual masterbation etc (whatever sex act is the preference). I don't say that two men cannot live together (or women) and deeply love each other. If that is truely how they are wired for affection. If they just lust after the flesh of the same sex, then that's a problem they should deal with.

I want some REAL intellectual honesty. If all that we are is a product of evolution, then from an evelutionary standpoint, homosexuality is the worst thing brought upon mankind. If there's one thing that prevents reproduction, it' s homosexuality. If you think you're a product of evolution, then you SHOULD NOT STAND FOR HOMOSEXUALITY.
