Holy hell, our house just got hit by lightning

The smell of ozone is still pretty evident. It blew out two circuits, bathroom and living. Looks like everything survived though. I fear damage to the roof, but have no way of knowing with the current storm.

Any suggestions? I hate to call 911 when it's been 10 minutes and there is no evidence of fire or anything. The bathroom REALLY smells of ozone and I've cut power to it. It's even worse, to the point of burning the nostils, in one of the outlets. I assume that the strike ran down the cast iron vent stack of the bathroom.

Just make absolutely sure there's no fire anywhere. You wouldn't want something to smolder and catch the place on fire in the middle of the night.

That's my fear, but I have just as little chance of smothering it as the fire dept, especially if it's in the walls.

Call the fire department, and if you dont want to do that yet, put a smoke detector in the bathroom temporarily.

Most will say bleach but that is a by-product. O3 is a VERY strong oxidizer (ORP = >2V! nearly twice of Cl!) and will produce cl and br (OPO) when it contacts olfactory fluids. Me, too! Well, not directly. But it was definitely less than a block away where it struck. I wasn't planning on going outside in the middle of a thunderstorm to go check it out. Scared the sh!t outa me. The small gap between the time you see the flash and hear the lightning was nonexistant.

As far as the fire department can tell, everything is ok. I feel kind of embarassed that there are 4 firemen in our living room just kinda here because of it 😱 .
