I overheard some guy talking today with a co-worker of mine... he attends our law school which is tier 1 but in the 40ish ranking

He got a couple job offers already in Miami and the lowest pay is 150K

I was really shocked.. didn't know fresh law graduates can pull in that much dough

He plans to live with his parents for a couple of years and save up half a mil by the time he's 25 :roll:

The dean of Standord's law school failed the California bar not too long ago. It's not easy :Q

Correct.

I recently purchased the World News and Report law school "Bible" and the going rate for a private firm in NY is $125,000 plus incentives.

EDIT: btw, the soul is overrated anyway.

Figuring that hes probably 23-24 (freshly minted law school graduate) that means he has racked up probably around 100K in debt. But since he's in the upper tax bracket, his income will be heavily taxed so that saving up half a million will likely take longer.

i will definitely agree with some of the other posters above.

a miami firm that pays 150k for a first year associate? im not gonna say the person is lying, but, come on...

at the top NY firms, base is 145k. maybe the dude was including bonus? even still, we don't talk about bonus included salaries...

Plus they OWN you. 60 hour+ hour work weeks, forget that.

I had one friend say (Tier 1 law school) "The money is good, but no time to spend it."

$150K is damn nice...a family friend's attending UofMich Law and supposedly had a $110K offer from Chicago, and he's not even done yet. He's a smart little fvcker though.

I don't buy it. The top firms in LA, NY and SF aren't offering that much to graduates, why would some firm in FL offer that much?

I know a graduate from NYU (5th in the nation) making $130k in NY. $150k+ in Fl? Seems unlikely.

Law school is a total of 7yrs. 4yrs undergrad, generally Poly Sci, maybe he is an engineeering major and going into IP law?

18-22 BS
22-25 - Law degree

give me a job that pays the bills, leaves me with plenty of free time to pursue my interests/hobbies and spend time with friends and family, and enough cash left over for a 6-pack, and I'm a happy man
