I have watched a number of videos using Intel and AMD CPUs, and AMD and Nvidia GPUs. Frame pacing isn't very good once they made it to the castle and surrounding areas. Some were better than others, but none were smooth for very long. No one is saying it is game breaking, simply annoying. Now stop reading and get back to work slave. 😛
 
TPU has benchmarks up:


This game is super VRAM hungry. Also, this game is clearly heavily optimized for nVidia RTX, as AMD cards just fall over. I am sure there will be driver updates now that AMD has access to the game, but not sure how much they will be able to claw back as UE4 is very much a pro-nvidia engine.

Quite a bit of that is Shader Compiling, just leave it for 30 seconds or so and it calms down. It's not ideal but 8 hours into the game it's hardly gamebreaking as you say.

-I mean the simplest explanation is that AMD's arch just isn't built for RT first, while Intel and NV are.

I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that, like everything else, AMD engineers had to come up with a very "lightweight" and space conscious method of doing RT because their defining doctrine has always seemed to be "why sell tons of silicon as a GPU when we can sell way less silicon for similar prices as a CPU".

If you look at every engineering/business decision made by AMD regarding to GPUs, it always seems to be best explained by "they wanted to sell CPUs instead".

TPU's results with RT are a LOT worse for AMD than either ComputerBase or HUB's results.

Wonder what happened there tbh.

Their section on VRAM usage though is a VERY good guide of what to expect though. The game absolutely chews through the stuff.

Computerbase is using 12900K with slower RAM while TPU is using 13900K with faster RAM. My guess is that the 13900K configuration is less CPU limited so it stresses the GPU more, exposing the RT weakness of RDNA2 in a more pronounced manner. Also, TPU is using the more recent Windows 11 22H2 while CB tested with 21H2.

Yeah no these aren't just differences with CPU choices.

 
Hopefully it gets more optimized for PC. 46 fps at 4k on a 4090 with ray tracing enabled and avg of 76 ultra settings without ray tracing. I guess it's ok without RTX for being an open world game. Reflection RtX is most noticed indoors but not so much outside.

If you want to use Ray Tracing you pretty much have to use dlss at 4k.
 
I've only made it to the castle and just finished my charms class. So far the game runs quite well. I'm waiting to hit the open world to see how performance truly is though.

Anyone know how the game will play on a 2200g + 980ti @1080p?

Wife is interested in the game and I have a spare HTPC system that I figured she could game on (not keen on giving up my PC, Witcher 3 calls me).

Virtually all the benchmarking I'm seeing so far is all Turing cards and up. I guess a 980ti lands around a 1660S/3050 in performance with similar RAM, so I figure those are the best analogues, but it'd be great to hear from someone running a legacy system.
 

Roughly 16 fps on a GTX 660! The 980 Ti would be just fine.

You should ensure that the system has 32GB RAM minimum.

980ti is a beast. If you fire it up, let us know how it goes, but I am guessing a CPU drop in - like a 3600/5600 would go a looong way and is only a little more than the game costs 😉. I would try it but don’t own it.

Here are the system requirements. Do note, that this hardware is for 30fps at 720P with low settings.

A 980Ti should be ok, though you will need to be at minimum settings most likely. 32GB of RAM is only needed if the settings are set higher than the available VRAM on the GPU can handle. Give it lower settings, and 16GB should suffice (as it notes in the requirements)

Also, FSR works on the 980Ti (Thank you AMD), so you can always use that to get a pretty big FPS boost.
