That's the whole point of zero tolerance - it removes the need for any common sense or good judgement.

I think zero tolerance is doing what it is supposed to. get the dangerous kids out of school!

anyway the school board is way to busy with stuff to worry about the kids. i mean they are such a nuisance. bring drugs to school you get suspended. no questions asked!

Okay, that's the last straw. I'm starting a list of "People who Will Be Allowed to Survive the Coming Apocalyspe" - sign up now, space is limited - and then it's time to carpet-bomb the world.

I could also st@b your eyeballs out with a pen.. What if you're allergic to the plastic in the pen and get a nasty eye socket infection? It's a bit far fetched but it could happen.

edit.. WAIT A MOMENT HERE.. "ST@B" IS A BANNED WORD ON ATOT?

well there is no school rule that says "No Pens on school grounds" atleast in this case. But you tell me what if she overdosed on those pills? Who is responsible? Why should the school take a chance?

And that is where we need to put a stop to the stupid people being able to sue. If people were just god damn responsible for their own actions then we wouldn't have all these stupid policies. Quit trying to blame your problems onto someone else.

Yes, if I am to take cough drops in school I must have a doctor's note, and they must be taken through the office (this means that the lady at the desk has to actually watch me ingest it).

Thats's just moronic. "Teacher Billy gave me a Halls. The vapour action burns!!!!! Ahhhhhh!! My parents are going to sue." :)

Except that this isn't a street drug and this kid wasn't "dangerous". The end result is that a child is not going to get an education for a year. How is that a good thing, or did you not think that far ahead?

Wouldn't that take a while? I mean, they don't exactly dissolve in a matter of seconds.

That's gonna be one *really* short list. Well, it will be if you want only people who are more intelligent than my little toe to survive.

Too PC, sure, I'll go along w/ that.
Stupid, Yeah, I'll agree with that.

I wonder if school personnel get their kicks out of this. A way to defeat kids out of spite... Everytime I read one of these, I'm reminded of that song "Another Brick in the Wall". My observation of the trend in the school system is that those administering it are just there for a power trip.

And, suppose a student trips and falls on the newly sharpened end of a pencil that I gave them in class... Maybe I shouldn't make them so sharp?

Seriously, there's something wrong with the system when the penalty for Advil = the penalty for hand gun.
(gun, IIRC, is pretty much an automatic 1 year expulsion, at least in NY state. Rules vary from state to state of course)

That's completely wrong. The school board appears to be a bunch of heartless bastards. The poor kid and her family are going to have to come up with money for a private school, or move. That's a pretty steep consequence for possessing advil.
