Able was an airdrop. Both bombs yielded 23kT. Both bombs would have killed roughly the same amount of people. Baker however, did more structural damage, and would have longer lasting local effects due to the height of the detonation. Able missed it's mark by about a half mile, which led to media disappointment. The scientists and military were happy, and went on to building bigger more effective bombs.

my mistake, able was dropped. there was considerable pressure to produce a bigger bang with baker. the unsatisfactory results were due to the ineffective use of the weapon (not the least of which was missing the target) rather than technological limitations. in addition to baker's closer proximity and greater kinetic energy transfer of water, the tons of falling water dealt considerable damage, not to mention the radioactive fog.

you are parhaps confused, presidents names are not the only ones used for ship names

battleships are *almost* all states names.

carriers have various groups, alot are presidents, dod personal and naval officer names

No one converted anything. The navy filmed and photographed the entire test in high resolution high speed color. The navy essentially bought all the film on the planet at the time. Hollywood filming had to be suspended due to lack of film.

Film doesn't have a resolution. That's why you can always blow up old negatives. They can go back and re-scan old movies at 1080 resolution or even higher.
