The 23kT Baker device was detonated 90 feet (27 m) underwater on July 25, 1946. That picture was taken from a tower on Bikini Island, 3.5 mi (5.6 km) away. The ships were arranged in a semiradial pattern at various distances from the detonation to see the effects of flash & blast on the superstructure mostly. The pattern is very unlike a normal vessel deployment pattern.

Among notable target ships, one can recognize the carrier Saratoga, the battleship Nevada, and the battleship Arkansas in the water column 250 yards from the detonation epicenter.

Well, you do get a lot of hot air when presidential candidates detonate but I'm not sure how they'd fare underwater. You'd probably get quite the hollow promises column and the occasional blast of indignation though.

If they could just repeat the test using presidential candidates ...
Then we'd still have weeks of 24/7 coverage of people talking about which candidate was vaporized first, or which was vaporized most completely, and how this shows which one would have made a better president.

That's not the real death certificate! He survived it. You can tell that this death certificate is obviously a photoshop because it took them so long to release it.

newt would sink, paul would float, rick would walk on water and mitt would pay someone to pick him up in a yacht

I can neither confirm nor deny that this image shows my detached and incinerated genitals.

Shit, that's insanely detailed.

I'm hoping those ships were empty, right?

not for long. soon after detonation sailors were aboard to examine the results. since many were still floating the navy decided they had weathered the storm very well indeed, ignoring massive structural damage and radioactivity (even though anyone aboard would have been killed or crippled). sailors then attempted to decontaminate the ships by hosing them down with radioactive seawater.

I feel like going to japan to clean up the tsunami disaster now.
Heard they were paying 35k a week to volunteer for it.
But then a budy of mine let me know that the radiation was so strong that I would be a goner even with a radiation suit on. :D

Nice pic Dennil. The vertical Arkansas is pure win!

Here is a one hour documentary about the Bikini Atoll tests which contains much information most are unaware of... with surprise ending.
