You do realize that if she fights the ticket and loses, she will also have to pay court costs, which will make the ticket even more expensive, right?

Getting to my point:

I sat my wife down in front of Google Earth and showed her our house in satellite view and how it sat in relation to the other stuff and she said that the pictures were doctored by the government. It wasn't until I mentioned that here in our house was the only place on earth that sun set in the South, that she really didn't have anything to say.

 what does this have to do with running a red light?

oh, and you're wife's an idiot. doctored by the government, lol

Depends on the state. In some cities/states you pay court cost no matter if you stand in front of a judge or just pay the fine. So its best to go to court and try to get it lowered some.

Of course one friend of mine and someone he knew got a ticket for peeing in public. So his friend pays the fine/court cost beofre the court date and hes done. My friend waits to long and they tell him he can;t pay anymore and has to go to court. So he thinks it will be the same fine as the other guy but lose a day. Well the judge was so ticked off she said she was going to give him the biggest fine and also a lot of comm. service. She pulls out a book, no joke, and keeps looking and looking and even has someone else read it to double check. Well after 15 minutes with the DA they find out she can;t do that and can only fine him for the first offense. So ended up paying more fine and getting the "book" thrown at him. So in some cases going to court can back fire. :)

She will NOT get out of the ticket for a few reasons.

1. She's guilty.
2. Video evidence.
3. Photo evidence.
4. They have to pay for the equipment that issues those tickets.
5. They have to justify, with statistics, that equipment and ticketing system.

So she will be added to the "successfully caught, ticketed, and found guilty with our system" category.

No offense but your wife is a knucklehead and needs her fine increased for wasting taxpayer money for fighting something she is completely guilty of doing.

That women when confronted by black and white evidence seem to have their eyes glaze over and refuse to back down.

The funny thing is my wife is very intelligent....................about most things.

Can she clearly be made out as the driver?

Also are there laws in your state that say a ticket must be issued by a police officer?

As some have stated though, just showing up you can pleabargain and atleast drop the price. Then send her to driving schiool ;)

Why do they use hidden cams? The ones I have seen are always right out in the open.

It was a play on the title of another thread about a hidden cam catching a nanny. ;)

Nobody stops legally when you're allowed to turn at a red light. Not unless you're only waiting for a car to pass in front of you do you complete-stop. If they caught you, you're screwed.

Frankly if they're doing that to catch people, they must be catching hundreds of people a day.

In Florida, Red Light Cameras are only able to issue warning tickets due to the fact that it is your constitutional right to face your accuser in court. If your accuser is a camera, you can't really face them. Red Light Cameras are still banned in Florida from issuing real tickets.

Tell her to pay the ticket, stop fighting the inevitable, and come to a full stop next time before making a right at a red light. Probably not what she wants to hear but sometimes people don't want to hear the truth.

That will just cause an argument, let the judge piss her off and you stay in good graces. Then when she still is guilty just dont bring it up again if you know whats good for you.

Here in California, once you get the ticket, you can request a written not guilty plea. Choose that option. Have your wife write a letter to the court not denying but not admitting that she was the driver. She's basically pleading the fifth. Say a lot of people drive the car, your sister, in laws, whatever and that your wife cannot recall whether she was the driver of the vehicle at the time. CLAIM THAT THE SINCE NO PEACE OFFICER PULLED HER OVER AND IDENTIFIED HER AS THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME, THE COURT MUST DISMISS THIS CASE BECAUSE A BLURRY PICTURE OR THE FACT THAT YOU'RE THE REGISTERED OWNER OF THE VEHICLE ARE NOT ENOUGH EVIDENCE TO IDENTIFY YOUR WIFE AS THE DRIVER. You'll have to first post bail but once the court dismisses the case, the record will be wiped and bail refunded.

This applies to any camera ticket because the only evidence linking you to the driver is the vehicle registration and some blurry photos. That is not enough evidence to hold up in court and the court will have no option but to dismiss your case. I was able to get out of a red light ticket by using this method.
How many hours did you spend doing that including taking the time to go there and back? My red light ticket was $150 and having to take a day off wasn't worth it. That, plus it's not guaranteed to get you out of it. Red light tickets also cost 0 points (thus making them fishy) but that did not add any incentive to fight either.

Le's recap....
1. Wife gets ticket in mail.
2. Video shows her in the wrong.
3. Wife wants to fight it.
4. the only question is "WHY"?

Tell her to quit wasting the courts time andjust pay the damn thing.

Own up, be a responsible citizen instead of an anarchist.

These responses amuse me. It is her right to go to Court. How is it irresponsible to practice those rights?

So your contention is that practicing any of our rights at any time is always a responsible thing to do?

I'd like to know why practicing your rights isn't responsible? Do you think you're going to get taxed less if she doesn't go to Court or something?

As the registered owner, you are still responsible for the operation of the vehicle.
The state (if they want to) can find a way to either nail you or revoke the vehicle registration.

If you let another driver operate the vehicle, they are responsible for the direct operation; however, you made the decision to allow them - therefore you are also considered to be liable for anything that happens when they are in control of the vehicle.

If they cause an accident, your insurance company does not forgive you because you are not the one behind the wheel.

I didn't make a statement, I asked a question.
