With the P4 option, I'm looking at this...

Motherboard: Abit IC7-G MaxII Advance-$139
Processor: P4 3.2C w/ HT- $281
Memory: 4x Kingmax PC3500 512MB-$420

Total: $840

This is your cheapest option.

Keeping your current CPU's, use this to "limp" along.

I bought one of these for $220 in '02 and sold it for $250 in '03! Something you just don't see with computer hardware!

Anyways, it's a fine MPX2 board. At least mine was. :)

Cheers!
Well, there is one thing.... My Tiger MP would not work with my SCSI card and my Radeon 9700. I just couldn't boot off of the SCSI card. The Gigabyte board allows me to. I don't know if this board would.

I've heard nothing but good things about these boards. Why did they make so few?

That's wierd. My TigerMP boots off the SCSI card just fine.

Do you have a 128MB Radeon 9700 Pro as well? :p

The Boot ROMs are too big for each other.

This is correct.

The MPX-2 does not have this problem. I had a 9800 Pro 256MB and two SCSI cards in the MPX-2 with no issues.

Cheers!

So you would upgrade to 2800+s?

Not for the money.

The most price conscious thing to do is replace the mainboard and stick with your 1800+ cpu's.

The dual 1800+ setup with 64/66 SCSI will be far more responsive than the P4 system especially when multi tasking. Unfortunately only one P4 uniprocessor board exists with 64/66 PCI slots and is expensive!

If you actually have the need for the faster CPU and memory bandwidth, the P4 will be far superior particularly in the case of the latter.

With that said, it's basically between the A64 and P4.

Cheers!

Well, I only have one U160 SCSI device right now. I don't think I'd have any problems with sticking it on the regular PCI bus. I'd like a 64/66 slot, but I don't think it's a must have.

Personally I'd get this
$45 REFURBISHED: GIGABYTE 865PE GA-8IPE1000-L
$220 P4 3.0C
$310 Geil Ultra Series Dual Channel Kit 184-Pin 1GB (512MBx2) DDR PC-4400 w/ Copper Heat Spreader w/ Temp Thermometer, Model GL1G4400DC, for overclocking if needs be ;)

If you dont like that Gigabyte board, theirs an Abit on Newegg for $80.

Grand total using the Gigabyte/Abit? $575/610

If I was to build a system today that'd be it. And for a multitasker like you it sounds good. Its not TOO much money so when newer stuff comes out soon you dont feel taken.
The reason I dont suggest using your current CPUs is because they are modified and you expressed some concern over that. I dont see the point in getting a new motherboard when the CPUs *could* be damaged or on their way out. Besides that, personally I'm kind of ready to "let go" of the AXP stuff and start purchasing, at minimum A64 or P4 stuff. I've had so many socket As I guess I'm just tired of them.
Get yer SSE2 and HT with the P4!

Good luck!

Oh in that case you can get just about anything! :)

875P Mainboard w 3.0+ GHz HT 800FSB CPU will hold you over nicely.

Cheers!

No, G400 or G450. Can't remember which. I lost whichever one isn't in that machine. :(

That makes sense though. I guess. :p

I bought my first non Matrox video card over the weekend. I've owned others, just never paid for them... I almost feel dirty.

I see. You wear the big jacket, you look thin when you walk in to Best Buy, then you magically fill out when you decide you don't want to buy anything.

I get it.

It's good that you're finally being honest with us and with yourself.

Yeah, you know there is a huge market for all these 2MB video cards I have lying around the house. :p

2MB? You must be funneling them to Russia.

Just how big is this operation, n0c? Tens of thousands of people? Hundreds of thousands?

And all the while you're too cheap, even with the billions pouring in, to pay for enough copies of Windows ME for your systems...

I might as well drop the money since it's such an important component.
